We Are Family by Jan Landers
Oh Great Spirit, who made all races, look kindly upon the whole human family and take away the arrogance and hatred which separates us from our brothers…. / -Cherokee Prayer- As most of you know, I just returned from a long bus trip across country (over 2000 miles round trip). This journey was quite an adventure in many ways… I encountered a diverse group of people & situations. I saw eyes full of love….I experienced kindness and consideration…and I heard words of prejudice & separatism. Through it all, I kept thinking of our oneness and sending blessings out to everyone I met. We are all spirit…..no matter what our color, lifestyle, background, or upbringing…..and we all have the choice in each and every moment to see ouselves as separate and in competition or to reach out to our fellow beings with love and compassion and understanding. We truly are Family….. / (this design is inspired by petroglyphs found in New Mexico)

Closing The Gap by Crowmanic
Closing The Gap is currently in vogue, used to describe all Government policy, strategies and bureaucratic practices, tying all funding towards “closing the gap” between (what’s left of) Aboriginal people and the Mainstream. In effect, not only is it an attempt to ensure the so-called equality to health, education, training, and employment opportunities for the Aborigines, it whites-out Aboriginal culture, a different world-view centred in spirituality, as well as their unique heritage and contribution. It is little more than another form of assimilation — the domination of dear ol’ “sMother Culture” pasteurising and homogenising everything in the name of “Our way of life. So get out of the way.” And b4 you come a-gunnin’ for me, or over-reacting … don’t sweat it… your sides winning by pure numbers and persuasion. Chill-out! I hear it everyday. Don’t worry, be happy, ‘cause all remnants of meaningful differences will be gone soon enough, and yep “we’re all the same, and we can have it all” will be the common ground for more.. ”...they may look with eyes wide open but never quite see, and may listen with ears attuned but never quite understand.” ~ taken from a Book, that is an international best seller, read by multi-millions of people, yet understood by few and far between.

“Desert Sands” by Susan Betts
The desert camps are dry, hot and red. Sands in between camps shift in the desert wind. People sit around camps sheltered from the drifting sands.

My Grandmother & her Grandkids by bidjara
Let me introduce to you my grandmother. Margaret Lawton. She the person who brought me up and is an amazing person, a respected indigenous community Elder, a foster mother and a strong willed, much loved and respected member of my family. She has done so much for many community and individual indigenous and non indigenous organsations and members in the CQ area. This picture was taken by me, before my eldest son (Preston) graduation from High School last year and also in the picture is my beautiful daughter (whom you may remember I paid tribute to in one of my canvas pieces as coming of age) Charnell. I decided that since my grandmother and my grandfather are the one’s that I instilled into me the all the knowledge and respect that is the central core of who I am, I wanted to proudly share them with you. Thank you. Mel

Mandala 4 Back In Black by sekodesigns
The meaning of mandala comes from Sanskrit meaning “CIRCLE” Even though it may be dominated by other geometric shapes like squares or triangles, a mandala has a concentric structure. Mandalas offer balancing visual elements, symbolizing unity and harmony. The meanings of individual mandalas is usually different and unique to each mandala. For some, the goal of the mandala is to serve as a tool on one’s spiritual journey as it symbolizes cosmic and psychic order. For others, the mandala is used as a counter-balancing mechanism of one’s own psyche, (The spirit or soul) and a way for us to focus or meditate our way into becoming a whole person.

Indalo (Rainbow Man) Tee by Jan Landers
This is from an ancient symbol called ‘Indalo’ or ‘Rainbow Man’. It was discovered in the Cave of the Signboard in the province of Almeria, Spain. It has been used for hundreds of years on houses to provide protection or good luck. This is the symbol I adapted for my ‘Rainbow Warrior’ Tee.
