Another step in my attempts to understand lighting… I wanted to show off the flowing lines of this celery, covering a complete tonal range. Although I did manage to bring out the texture, I still find the flash (even if diffused) too harsh for this kind of setup so I think my next attempt would be to make a softbox of some kind, to provide the same level of contrast, but with a more evenly diffused lighting. To be continued… 8-) [Sony a350, Sigma 105mm, f:11, 1/125 sec, ISO-100, Off-camera Minolta HS-3600 flash, diffuser sheet] Featured on the *RedBubble Art Page” on 2 Nov. 2009 /

On what has to have been an absolute photographers dream trip, Dick Hardy (check him out on RB) and I did a fantastic trip down the West Coast of Tasmania (the island state of Australia). After an hour and a bit of an early morning drive to Temma, we rode down on a couple of 4wd quad bikes to the Thornton River, not far from Sandy Cape. It took us 4 hours return, but what a sight!! The dunes were on fire!! .....with light, with colour, with texture,.........ok, Everything!! A big blue sky, full of fluffies, and we were in Heaven. 6 hours of trudging up dune and down dale, and we were stuffed!! But, whatever the photographic results turned out to be, it was an absolute BUZZ to just go and see these amazing dunes, and the coastline, the middens…..the lot!! / .......i don’t care if i die tomorrow now, i’ve seen the best!! CHECK IT OUT LARGER…..I bet you like it !! From my series World from Above series a shot taken over Arizona: The river bed and what seems to be a road or dirt track winding through the desert have left a permanent scar in the desert landscape. Time for another in my series World from Above that l captured flying over France on a commercial flight from Munich to Tenerife, Canary Islands. I was fascinated by this river delta and the surrounding fields, hills and valleys. I still haven’t found out where it is exactly so any pointers are very welcome!. It is always worth keeping an eye on the landscape below when flying, and keeping the camera primed and at hand. Watch out for fascinating formations of fields, forests, lakes, hills and valleys whether formed by Nature or by Man. Location: approx. 11,000 metres above France Nikon D200, Sigma 18-200mm. / Post-pro in CS2 – level and contrast; grey grad filter by Nik ColorEfex. No overall digital manipulation. New 2009 Edit: / Whilst walking in a Bluebell Glade with my good friend Pete Holman a few years ago on the way to Logan Rock in Cornwall., I came across a sea of really tiny unfurling ferns. This one very tiny emerging fern caught my eye, and I just thought, “this looks just like a Sea Horse waiting for boxing gloves”. Without a tripod on me it was taken hand held. I hope you like it as much as I do as it always make me smile. Technical: / Fuji S6500FD / Super Macro. / 6 million Pixels High. / Hand held Auto / tidied up and cropped just a little in PSP X2
