This flower grows on the lush banks of my imagination. It’s difficult to define whether it is a flower or a butterfly. When it’s asleep I suppose it is a flower, but when it wakes, as it is doing here, it becomes a butterfly living inside a plant and occasionally flying off for a while. I used coloured pencils for this. And yes, I was a little inspired by Tiffany lampshades :) THIS WAS FEATURED BY THE FINE ARTS GROUP- 2nd July 2009.
(Title needs some thought I think). Acrylic on Canvas 1.05×1.05m

There are movements which impinge upon the nerves with a strength that is incomparable, for movement has power to stir the senses and emotions, unique in itself. This is the dancer’s justification for being, and his reason for searching further for deeper aspects of his art.” / — Doris Humphrey (1895-1958) Part of a series of dances…. / / / / /
This little guy was pictured sitting on the edge of a causeway somewhere in the Kruger National Park area. This is the larger of the Kingfisher species.Common in the southern eastern parts of South Africa. In pairs or singly, they are found near wooded rivers or dams sitting on bridges or wire waiting for movement in the water. Hover briefly before diving in to catch their prey! Painted on Waterford 356gsm watercolour paper using mainly W/N professional paints. I was inspired with this photo taken by a friend Christa Tappe. Colours used…..FUMB, B Sienna, a touch of L Yellow.
Pastel on Burgundy Colourfix Paper – 70cm x 50cm Each year for the Seymour Agricultural Show I do a portrait of one of the members of the Seymour Pastoral & Agricultural Society. In 2005 it was the turn of this fine, upstanding gentleman who is very well known and respected in the area, having been farming in the district, with his family, for many years. I really enjoy portraits of men who have reached ‘a certain age’, and who have so much character in their faces. (Ladies in a similar situation always want to be made to look younger for some reason)!!! I achieved a good likeness with Alan, and he was very pleased with the result and now has it proudly displayed over his mantlepiece! This work was featured in the group ‘Mature Men’ – Jan 2009
