Hope this is not the last drop of water on earth. In Gansu Province, China, people need to walk 2 hours just to collect 2 buckets of water for daily use. By the time they reach home, 1/3 of the water had gone due to spill out during walking on the uneven road. We are so lucky. Need water? Just turn on the water faucet. Firewood for tonight by flyingdocphotos. / Village woman from Bromo, East Java Indonesia. _This image was taken in a small village on the outskirts of the Bromo caldera volcanic region of eastern Java, Indonesia. I was playing around with my 100mm macro lens, capturing some spider pictures then this lady appeared down the trail, emerging from the fog. I stood at the side of the road, smilied and raised my camera as she drew close. As she saw me, she smiled, nodded back, posed and I took a snap. Then (I think she thought I was going to take only one photo) she started walking along again, focusing on the uphill path in front of her – and that’s when I clicked my shutter again, capturing this image. _

The first image for 2009. This year I’ll think outside the square more often, leave my comfort zone behind and continue on my creative journey. I was daydreaming about this image – my Christmas dress and the pool – before taking it…how would the soft sheer fabric flow along the ripples of the cool blue water, and the only way to know is it immerse yourself and try it. When a family member asked what on earth I was doing, I replied “Being silly” without any hesitation. And that’s another thing I’ll do a lot more of this year – be silly – and not worry about stuff. And isn’t that a refreshing way to start the year.

For some of us photography has evolved into more than just a hobby and has become a part of who we are. Maybe you’ve begun (or are looking) to showcase your work at a gallery. Maybe you are studying the craft full time. Maybe you are earning your income (or trying to) through photography. Or maybe you are just extremely passionate about photography as a form of art and self expression. If any of this applies to you, than this group is for you.
