I stubbled upon a group of 6 black yellow tailed cockies in Leura, NSW, Australia. It is a cloudy covering on the mountains and I was heading to the lookout for cloudy valley shots. It was exhilerating standing in the recently burnt underbrush with the magnificant creatures flying all around crying out to each other. My heart is still racing…
Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way round or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. / If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. David Iori’s Website Email Me / . / © Copyright 2008 David Iori Photography, All Rights Reserved / . / The Three Sisters Echo Point Katoomba The Legend / _The Aboriginal dream-time legend has it that three sisters, ‘Meehni’, ‘Wimlah’ and Gunnedoo’ lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe. These beautiful young ladies had fallen in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe, yet tribal law forbade them to marry. The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to use force to capture the three sisters causing a major tribal battle. As the lives of the three sisters were seriously in danger, a witchdoctor from the Katoomba tribe took it upon himself to turn the three sisters into stone to protect them from any harm. While he had intended to reverse the spell when the battle was over, the witchdoctor himself was killed. As only he could reverse the spell to return the ladies to their former beauty, the sisters remain in their magnificent rock formation as a reminder of this battle for generations to come._
Some may disagree, but there are some shots a Lensbaby has to give way to true tilt+shift. This single RAW image has not been manipulated or played with in Photoshop et al. What you see is what I got, over 220 seconds using my previously-neglected 24mm f3.5L tilt+shift lens on the Canon 5D Mark II. Shot at the same spot on the same day as Eternal Watershine Of The Spotless Kind, deep in the Valley of the Waters, Blue Mountains National Park.

Another beautiful image of the rocks & ferns on the Grand Canyon walk at Blackheath in the Blue Mountains National Park, Australia. I think I like this one as much as the Canyon steps image. It has the added highlight of the richly coloured rocks & none of the glare of the previous similar shot. This loop track is currently undergoing repairs (November 2009), so that you have to return the same way you came, but the advantage is that you get the see things from a different angle.
Painting was done using watercolours. / Glenbrook Creek NSW Australia.

This is one of my favourite scenes on the Grand Canyon walk in the Blue Mountains National Park at Blackheath, Australia. Featured in the Your Magic PLACE group on November 1, 2009. Thank you guys. This was a beautiful warm day to be in the mountains & two small but significant things happened. While I was standing quietly viewing one of these beautiful scenes a tiny finch was hopping around the forest floor & ended up jumping on to my shoe. It gave it a couple of surprisingly powerful pecks (hoping for a mouthful of food) before hopping away. / I’ve never had a bird do that before & I was very impressed. Also a snail without a shell somehow landed on my hat & almost circumnavigated it before I spotted the silver trail & offloaded it onto the forest floor. Cute ! I may tidy this image up a little at a later stage.
Just near the start of the Grand Canyon walk at Evan’s Lookout is this brilliant view beyond craggy rocks. The Grand Canyon walk is near Blackheath in the Blue Mountains National Park, Australia. For all my friends from the US our version of the Grand Canyon is nowhere near the size of your Arizona version. I guess the person who named it was being a little cheeky.
This brilliant walk isn’t as spectacular as it used to be before the bushfires & storms but it still has loads of fascinating coloured rocks & plentiful ferns. This walk is near Blackheath in the Blue Mountains National Park, Australia.
BEST VIEWED LARGER This typical Australian shot was taken on the Shipley Plateau in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area , it was created from 4 bracketed images using a Nikon D300 fitted with a Nikon 18-200mm. No filters were used. THe Blue Mountains are located 2 hours west of Sydney by road, also by train for visitors to Sydney, there are also organised day trips via motor coach that will take you to the area for the day…. though if you have the time spend a few days in the area. You can see all the attractions, have a devonshire tea in one of the many teahouses, or sit on the edge of the valley that seems to go on forever, and listen to the birdlife. Bushwalking is a must ! My HDR Journey continues !
This is a magic spot, very easy to get to and can be accessed on the road down to the Megalong Valley from Blackheath in the Blue Mountains National Park area of NSW Australia. From the traffic lights in the centre of Blackheath, heading west, you turn left across the railway tracks then immediately left and right again. This road wanders steeply downhill through the most amazing scenery of ferns and lush green foliage and it is down this road to the left that you will find a very small car park and the entrance to the Coachwood Glen Nature Trail. The return trip is 600 metres with a few seats along the way. There are small waterfalls and a creek that runs through the lower area, from there you climb up and circle around and over another crossing of the same creek before heading back to the parking area. Its well worth tacking this onto your list of things to see in this magnificent area. / / ... and the same area during a previous trip / / Wait … there’s more /
EMPRESS FALLS is one of the most spectacular / waterfalls for its sheer depth, height & textured colours of rockface that start from the water entrance at height. / Falling into a pool, the water makes its way down through a number of Beautifull waterfalls known as / the Valley of the Waters. Dating back to Prehistoric times, this area in the Blue Mountains / of N.S.W. Australia is a favourite area for Photographers & Trekkers, & these particular falls are one of my favourite of them all.
