  • Snow Squall by LoisBryan

I got to drive up to the mountain last week, December 31st, ‘08 … and when I drive, I love to take all kinds of side roads. The day I discovered Jackson’s Mill Bridge, I promised myself to come back and take a closer look at the countryside. As I pulled up to this field to admire the setting sun a snow squall came up and quickly flurried the landscape. This shot was taken just as the first flakes fell. They had to be photoshopped off the lens, lol!!! Hope you enjoy the view!! Image taken with the Nikon D40x, using the 18-200mm VR lens. Located just outside of Breezewood, Pennsylvania.

  • Tired by LoisBryan

I’ve stopped and snapped this wonderful barn, located near Everett along route 30 in Pennsylvania, more than once. Still haven’t quite captured its essence … but I’m working on it!! This image was taken on Saturday, Janury 3, 2009, with the Nikon D40x using the Nikkor 18-200mm lens with the cp filter. It has been put thru HDR with PhotoMatix, then tinkered around with a bit in PhotoShop. Obsidian Dawn

  • Mann Lake Sunrise II, Harney County, Oregon by Wesley Picotte

In the deep southeastern confines of Oregon is Mann Lake, pooled at the foot of Steens Mountain, a 30-mile long fault block piece of basalt. On its eastern side, seen here, Steens vaults nearly 2,000 feet into the sky in a nearly vertical relief. This is the desert and permanent lakes like Mann Lake are very rare indeed. It purportedly holds Lahontan Cutthroat Trout, the object of my visit. This population is a remnant of one that thrived in a vast inland sea covering this area during the Cretaceous Period. This species of trout survives here, where others cannot, because it can withstand saline water. I circumnavigated Steens Mountain over the course of a week and camped at Mann Lake for three days. I saw no trout, but did find an arrowhead and this sunrise.
