Taken from Aesop’s Fables. This one does not have a very happy ending… “A sailor, bound on a long voyage, took with him a Monkey to amuse him while on shipboard. As he sailed off the coast of Greece, a violent tempest arose, in which the ship was wrecked, and he, his Monkey, and all the crew were obliged to swim for their lives. A Dolphin saw the Monkey contending with the waves, and supposing him to be a man (whom he is always said to befriend), came and placed himself under him, to convey him on his back in safety to the shore. When the Dolphin arrived with his burden in sight of land not far from Athens, he asked the Monkey if he were an Athenian, who answered that he was, and that he was descended from one of the noblest families in that city. The Dolphin then inquired if he knew the Piraeus (the famous harbor of Athens). The Monkey, supposing that a man was meant, and being obliged to support his previous lie, answered that he knew him very well, and that he was an intimate friend, who would, no doubt, be very glad to see him. The Dolphin, indignant at these falsehoods, dipped the Monkey under the water and drowned him. Moral: / He who once begins to tell falsehoods is obliged to tell others to make them appear true, and, sooner or later, they will get him into trouble.” This image is one of many story images of birds and animals featured in my calendar Legendary Tales: Myths and Legends This image placed in the Water Challenge at Finks of Inks—thanks all of you fellow inkers! 23.5×31.5 in. watercolor on 100% cotton Arches 300 lb. paper / This is a small beach cove in Samos. The rock formation with the holes in it reminded me of an animals skull. This beach is only reached by a rather long footpath and is famous for it’s multi-colored pebbles..some of which are turquoise, serpentine marble, quartz, bloodstone, pink marble / and many others!! Beautiful place.

Dragon of Autumn is the first in a new series of work. Drawing dragons again makes me happy. :) Autumn makes me happy too… I love the crisp air and the smell of the leaves turning and the brisk refreshing breezes after the hot funk of summer. It’s a very joyful time of year to me, so I drew a joyful dragon. (Sometimes I still can’t help myself from playing in the leaves, too…) Dragon of Autumn is an ink drawing on bristol paper with digital color added in Photoshop. I’ve posted a step-by-step look at how this image was made on my blog for those who are curious. This image is also available on cards and as wall art

This time not the Guerrillero Heroico (English, “Heroic Guerrilla fighter”) image of Alberto Korda’s celebrated photo of the Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara. This alternative take on Che is actually based on a street artist’s portrail of the revolutionary leader and a statue based on that performance in New York city. Che Guevara has been associated with fashion since Jim Fitzpatrick, an Irish artist produced his iconic two-tone portrait of guerrilla leader in 1968, based on THAT photo by Alberto Korda. Guevara remains both a revered and reviled historical figure, polarized in the collective imagination as the subject in a multitude of biographies, memoirs, essays, documentaries, songs, and films. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. “I don’t want people to use my father’s face unthinkingly. I don’t like to see him stitched on the backside of a pair of mass-produced jeans. But look at the people who wear Che T-shirts. They tend to be those who don’t conform, who want more from society, who are wondering if they can be better human beings. That, I think he would have liked.” / — Aleida Guevara, daughter of Che Guevara Johnny Depp, Prince Harry, Gisele Bündchen, Jay-Z, Liz Hurley and Jack Osbourne are just a few of the rich and famous wearer of Che’s image as his legacy continues to dominate popular culture.

I shot this photo on my first trip back to my favorite place. The creek gets really dry druing the no rain months here in Fla. It takes allot of rain for it to have enough water in it for my little boat. Here it is allready August and there really still is not enough water, Florida or at least SWFL needs more rain. This gator is at least 10 foot. I am always on the lookout for a great gator shot. While riding in my boat at Fisheating Creek, it’s really hard to get a shot of one that is on dry ground. As soon and I mean they are fast, as soon as they spot the boat they run for cover. That is, they like to sink their self in the deep water. This gator was trapped by a floating log. He wanted to get to the deep water but the log was in his way. He thought I am guessing that he would go over the log, which is why his head is high above the water. Looking through the lens is kind of scary, after all I am in a ghenee and it is not much higher then that log. I took the shot just before he changed his mind about going over and went under the log. Now you would have to imagine this. He is in only in, maybe a foot of water, and about 2 feet about from the boat. He splashed so hard the log when flying and about scared me out of the boat. My heart was beating so fast, I am sure that I would have been a site to see! Taken in Fisheating Creek Palmdale Fl. / G is for Gator / Taken 8/28/2009
