A Tribute to Womanhood Collaboration between Reynaldo and Anthea Slade A Hair Story – Rapunzel was featured in Acrylic Painting 4 Oct 2009 A Hair Story – Rapunzel is the 22nd painting/drawing/poem upload of our Tribute to Womanhood Collaboration and the first of our Fairy Tales & Myths mini series. / For next eigtht uploads we will be focusing on women as fairy tale characters from a fresh and new perspective. Working with the brilliant, highly gifted artist/painter Reynaldo is a great honour and a pleasure. His imagination and his talent is limitless and his generosity and kindness of spirit is truly inspiring. Painting: Reynaldo / Drawing: Anthea / Short short story: Anthea A Hair Story Rapunzel’s heart beat with extreme excitement, never before had she been so close to such a gallant knight. His eyes, brown and intense drank her in. She could feel the pull of his desire connect to her longing. Her blood pounded in her chest. ‘Here I am. I have outwitted the witch and waited patiently observing you from a distance and now I want you.’ His eyes full of hunger pierced into her body and she trembled. ’ ‘I want to know you. Really know you, I have been so isolated here in my tower longing for such a brave knight as you. A man of tenacity and resourcefulness who could mentally outsmart the witch and you are here and I want to connect and I long to know your truth.’ she said. ‘Ah, my truth, do you think you can handle my truth? He questioned. ‘The brighter the sun, the darker the shadows that are cast. I want to know the man inside the knight.’ She mused. ‘My shadow could be grey or even black and you may find it too much to stay and listen. Isn’t the fact that I am here now and I have waited for you enough? ’ He said looking away. Taking his eyes from her felt like being thrown into the cold dark night of the witch’s world. ‘Your actions are what caught my attention and makes me want to learn more about you. And I have waited too. Oh my have I waited. I want to know the battles you have fought, the dragons you have slain, your defeats, your victories, doubts, fears, how your mind imagines and how your heart feels. I want to know you intimately.’ He turned back to look at her and she could feel the warmth from his eyes on her and she smiled. His charisma and energy ignited her spirit and aroused such yearning in her. ‘It may not be pretty, it may be different to what you expect and imagine but I will share myself with you. Where would you like me to start?’ He asked tenderly. ‘I want to know the journey that has brought you to me. You know my prince the single most powerful act we can do is share our vulnerability.’ She walked towards him and stood beside him as he looked out of from the tower to the distant land. She whispered in his ear. So tell me where your story begins and how you got here? By Anthea Slade Dimensions of Reynaldo’s beautiful painting are : 2009 Acrylic on 140 lb. Watercolour paper 24×18”

I finally got so frustrated that I took the canvas up to the creek to finish it, the whole thing became a study in abstractions rather than the way I thought it would go. I have way too many hours into such a small canvas, with just a lot of squinting and backing up to finish.
9X12 Acrylic Sketch on Canvas: First a 60 second drawing challenge from my friend’s backyard. Then a 40 minute painting challenge. The storm was closing in on us pretty fast, and by 40 minutes in we were drenched.

GROUP GUIDELINES:
Mixed media is fine, as it lends itself to adding different things to create different surfaces to paint upon (sand, dirt, just about anything you’d like to paint on can be gessoed into a paintable surface). But please, NO DIGITAL ENHANCEMENTS OR DIGITAL ART. Color correction is acceptable. Manipulation is not.
“IF IT DOES NOT STATE THAT YOU USED ACRYLIC IN YOUR DESCRIPTION IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED”
Please take care with how your work is presented. Upload only the work you are very proud of and that would be sellable as prints or cards. This means attention should be paid to cropping, soft focus, glare, etc.
If you are submitting a painting as part of a corporation that mass-produces work, your work will be rejected as this group is meant for individual artists and not companies who have employed artists to paint for them.
The Acrylics Group was founded to supplement other painting groups, such as Painters in Modern Times There are many techniques and qualities to acrylic painting that set it apart from watercolor, gouache, or oil painting. If you are a painter who uses acrylics and want to meet others who do the same, join the group! There are forums set up on techniques, tricks of the trade and a voluntary critique forum. I also host an Oil Painting group. Feel free to join both if you work in both mediums.
