Trumpeter Swans In Farmer's Field by David Friederich

I had the pleasure of observing and photographing trumpeter swans in a farmer’s field in the Comox Valley of Vancouver Island. These birds are the 747’s of the bird world, requiring long “run ways” for take off, and similar distances for landings. Not long ago, Trumpeters were an endangered species. It is wonferful to see their comeback. / / Nikon D300 with Nikkor 600 mm lens, ISO 800, F7.1, 1/200th second.

the photo here is from the city of pripyat,located 100km from chernobyl.once a bustling city in the Ukraine,the town population of 50,000 was evacuated in 2 days after the reactors in chernobyl overloaded and cause an immense meltdown.After 20 years,the city is still covered in immense amounts of radiation.The only safe-zone in pripyat is the Exclusion Zone.Where tours are given after aquireing the proper papers to enter,the picture you see is of the public pool that was abandoned 20 years ago,still standing after mass amounts of radiation and years of corrosion due to no chance of human maintence.The city is said to be in-habitable in another 200 years.

The actions of few are felt by many. Over time as one surrenders to the effect like an infection it will spread to the next in line until there is nothing left for the infection to feed on. The links in the chain are infected and soon they shall break. We turn to each other for help, we make sure our voices are heard through our so called democratic process, we make sure we are getting the best. Point them to the voting polls, to the rallies, I think they have something to say, but their voice is going unheard. Soon they will be silenced.

uploaded for the discussion on open aperture, in Photography 101 took this shot at the Rose garden at the John Ringling Museum . / Sarasota, Florida USA Aperture is the adjustable diameter of the a lens, the size of which determines how much light is able to reach the film. Aperture size is measured in f-numbers or f-stops. The f-number is a fraction of the focal length of the lens, so f2 on a 50mm lens would mean that the aperture is 25mm. Because the f-number stands for a fraction, in actuality, the smaller the f-number, the more your aperture is open. (ie f2=open aperture, f16=closed aperture).
