This very rainy morning, the fox kits were hanging out by the entrance to their den waiting for their breakfast, voles from the nearby meadow, which arrived dangling from mom’s muzzle. This year the fox vixen chose her den in a culvert off a meadow in the middle of the town of Jackson. Needless to say, the family caused quite a stir with the locals and particularly the wildlife photographers. Fortunately, the foul weather left me alone with the fox family this lovely morning. Canon 40D, Jackson, Wy, f5.6, 1/200, focal length 400mm, ISO 500. Features in Wolves and Wild Kin, April 2009. Thanks so much!
The fox is the smallest wild member of the dog family. Foxes are found throughout the Americas, Eurasia, and Africa. Most of the ten species of the genus to which the red fox belongs can adapt to diverse climates and habitats. The red fox is the most common species of fox. If fox is your animal totem, you are probably very observant, while quite good at remaining unnoticed yourself. The fox can act as a guide to the unseen world that surrounds us. Because the fox is often most active during dawn and twilight, the “in between times,” and because the fox is often seen along the edges where forests and meadows meet, the “in between places,” it is thought that the fox can lead one into the realm of faeries and other spirits. Featured in Baby Animals – November 3, 2009 Here are two of the Red Fox kits that belonged to the female in the previous photo. We never got to count how many there were, possibly 4 or 5. These young fox were playing along side the road near Helena, Mt. We were on our way home from Billings, I was driving the car, following Robert. He was driving a water truck to Kalispell. I noticed a dust ball along the road, and had to stop to see what was causing it! These fox were running through the fox holes, pouncing on each other, stirring up a ruckus! They were so cute. This is one moment they paused to watch me… “Siblings has been featured in six groups” Wolves and Wild Kin-7/09 / The Fabulous Prairies 7/09 / All Animals Great and Small / Human. Animal. Here’s an image of Ote (the Desert Kit Fox) when he was first learning to be outdoors. He’s smaller than the cinder blocks that are in our daughter’s back yard! What a cute little guy, we surely miss him:) Canon Elph Featured in Baby Animals Group

A fox denned up in the culvert just behind my house (Helena, Mt.) several summers ago. I had days to photograph before she finally moved the kits – probably because they were getting too used to me and pretty bold. Unfortunately I did not have a serious digital at the time so these shots are pretty small. Fun though anyhow.
This was an amazing find for me this summer, a fox den right on the side of the road under a collapsed shed. I was told there were seven kits, but the most I saw at one time was four. / This shot was taken south of Calgary, Alberta, Canada near the small town of Shepard. / Nikon D80, 300mm F/8, ISO 400, 1/500 sec.

This is Rocco when he was only about 6 months old. The Ferret Nation cage was sitting in front of the window, he climbed up the back to get on the windowsill to take a nap. We couldn’t find him, searched everywhere. Ferrets can find places to sleep you never knew existed, trust me. We peeked behind the cage and there he was, fast asleep on the window sill, on top of the “too-long-for-the window” blinds. Rocco is now 2 1/2 years old and just as gorgeous as he was here. He is such a sweet little guy. This is for the Funny places ferrets end up challenge in the Ferret Family group Best viewed larger
Just had to add this little chap, I was surprised how clearly my little Pentax picked up the detail of his pin feathers breaking through! No mods at all, just as is, bless him :) Best viewed large if you’re a bird lover! Taken with a Pentax Optio S50
I saw this little buck enjoying some fall leaves. The winter can be long and harsh so they eat as much as possible now.

This is for all the fantastic images of baby animals, from birds to zebras. Images can be from the wild, from a wildlife park, zoo or your home as long as it is a baby animal other than a cat or dog as they have plenty of their own groups.
No animals must be harmed in the process of you taking your photograph, or nests disturbed in order to get that shot.
Let us know where the image was taken and even a bit of info on the subject might be nice but not essential.
