Best View Larger! Featured in United States group. Taken at a friend’s home in his backyard. His grandmother had planted some poppy seeds back in the early 1930’s and the backyard is cover with them now. Canon 50D / Sigma 17-70mm lens / tripod / PS
I have tried forever to get a photo of any of the Eastern Bluebirds that are abundant in this area. However since our home is a small cabin deep in the woods I rarely see any Bluebirds close to the house. They seem to stay mainly at the edge of fields and along fence rows. I have never had any of them come to any of my feeders. Today I noticed a female come somewhat close as she was eating some ripe Polk berries. She didn’t stay long nor did she come very close. Not much of a photo opp. I decided to wait and watch in the hope that she or another would come back and get even closer this time.About 30 minutes after she left I noticed a brilliant streak of blue moving in and out of some tree limbs, and there he was! I couldn’t believe it and to top it off not only was it a male (better color) but one of the most vibrant male Eastern Bluebirds I had ever seen. I now know what the mean by the phrase “Bluebird Of Happiness”. He was a Bluebird and I sure was happy! Sun was just right and I had a chance for 5 shots, this is my favorite. This photo was taken at my home in Leitchfield, Kentucky

The Northport stacks detracting from the beauty of Asharoken. Here they are being reflected in Carters Bight, Asharoken, Northport, NY.,which happens to be my backyard. They has been reported as being one of the dirtiest power plants in the northeast. I’m not sure when they were built but I will never get over the fact that the community allowed this to happen.
