Please View Large Wikipedia © Buttermere is a lake in the English Lake District in North West England. Historically within Cumberland, it is 1.25 miles (2,010 m) by .25 miles (400 m) wide, and is 75 feet (23 m) deep. It has an elevation above sea level of 329 feet (100 m). A place of considerable scenic value, it is situated towards the head of the valley of the River Cocker and is surrounded by fells, notably the High Stile range to the south west, Robinson to the north east, Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks to the south east and Grasmoor to the north west. The village of Buttermere stands at the north western end of the lake, and beyond this is Buttermere’s twin, Crummock Water. There is a path around the lake which is about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) long, and at one point runs through a rock tunnel beneath the locality of Hasness. Access is by road, from Cockermouth in the north west; from Borrowdale via the Honister Pass; or from Braithwaite and the Newlands Valley via Newlands Hause. The lake is owned by the National Trust and is part of the National Trust property called Buttermere and Ennerdale. Buttermere means “the lake by the dairy pastures”. Standing above the village of Talisker, you get a tremendous view to the beautiful Cuillin mountains. / I got very lucky with the light here, on a day when the / sun and clouds were playing cat and mouse. Towards evening, the sun broke through long enough to capture the light falling on the village of Merkadale below. / Talisker is famous for the distillery where many visitors go to taste the Malt Whisky. / I confess to being a heathen…....I prefer a nice Cabernet Sauvignon !! Shot on my Canon EOS 50D, on tripod, polarising filter, iso 100, cloudy wb, f16, 1/25sec, – 1 exposure compensation to retain that dark moody sky, canon 17-85mm IS lens set at 85mm, RAW file processed in Camera Raw, then levels/curves/ selective colour/ in CS3. / Sharpened with Intellisharpen. Brandywine Falls Provincial Park is located on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, bordered on the west side by the Sea To Sky Highway 99 from Vancouver to Whistler. The park is about 7 miles (11 km) south of Whistler. The park is 143 hectares and there is a short walking trail leading from the parking lot to an observation platform at the top of the falls. The beautiful 70 metre waterfall is best seen from this viewpoint, which also gives you lovely views of Daisy Lake and the surrounding Coast mountains. / This park, and others along the highway, provide excellent day trips from Vancouver, with plenty of time to picnic, walk the trails and also spend some time along the way to visit some of the small towns like Britannia Beach and Squamish, and learn of the history of the region. I grew up thinking that trees were simply catagorically good. Tamarisk trees are not. Brought in to North America to stop erosion, they quickly took hold and took over. They use enormous amounts of water and produce nothing that wildlife can use. Many efforts are underway throught the West to eradicate them, but I fear they are here to stay. But they do look pretty, especially in fall color on the river bank. Colorado River in Glen Canyon, Az Panasonic Lumix DMC=FZ18
