This was my final project for my painting class this semester. We had to make an ‘abstract expression’ for it, but I found it difficult to find a style that suited me. My art teacher merely gave us the ‘instructions’ to do it, but they weren’t very helpful. He said that the painting shouldn’t make any sense, but I found that to be a conundrum within itself, so I went home and sat in front of the peice of card board I had found for the project. It had to have some implied and real textures, but I already knew that. What I wanted was a thought to be behind it. If only he had provided descriptions on what was going through some of the famous abstract expressionists’ heads… / Well, it was about the point where hopelessness was about sink in, but when I got up to leave the room, the coins in my jacket pocket jangled slightly. I took them out and stared at them, then I tossed them absentmindedly onto the board. They formed an arch going across the board, looking kind of like a gaping chasm in the middle of the ocean floor… Getting to the bottom of it was going to be hard, but then it occurred to me that that was my theme for my final; the depths. / I took a yardstick and sketched two diagonal lines where the coins sat on the cardboard. I then proceeded to wreak havoc in the living room area by tearing the remains of paper out of my step-dad’s large notepad (with his permission, of course.) I cut the notepad up in a likewise fashion to the diagonal sketch on the cardboard, only I cut them out and laid them out to intersect the one drawn on the cardboard. The effect therefore gives the impression that the painting starts out shallow then gradually begins to sink into the depths. / This is not the final version of the painting, but it was certainly more interesting in the beginning than it was in the end. This was inspired by the style of the famous avant-garde artist, Mark Rothko.
final piece for unit 4 of a-level art. / tin cans, corrugated cardboard, acrylic, oil pastel, tissue paper on thick cardboard. / rougly 1m x 2.6m so glad this is finished! it took forever. experimenting with combinations of odd objects (ahem, drinks cans) was good fun, took a few tries to find a decent way of attaching them to the card.

Experimenting with color and saturation using this cloudy day sky!! / For a challenge…. /
This started out as a normal (mid day- full hot sun) picture of the Tunnel / through the solid rock mountain in the Zion National Park. / The wall of mountain/rock is a Red rock. / When I took my picture, and looked at it , I was very disappointed. The entire Red rock mountain just BLEW OUT. I down loaded my pic to my computer, and started to work on saving my picture. I had NO SUCCESS !!! / Upset with my limited skill at fixing pictures . I just started playing with every adjustment slider I could find. / Much to my suprise my pictuce DISAPPEARED, and this ABSTRACT looking / HAND BRUSHED piece of ART started to APPEAR !!!! / I have never tried this before (check out my bubble) , but I am happy with this result and I will try this again with another pic !!! / P.S. When I first took this pic I was very upset with the car entering the tunnel. / But when I was finished with my experiment I saw that the car was a great feature !!!!!!!!!
Winner of the Experimental Orange Competition 14 Feb 2009 :):) Featured in the European Everyday Group . I was experimenting with my new Compact Digital, trying to capture a light trail as my train came into the station. It took a few tries but I was pretty happy with this result. I’d had an image in my mind for a couple of weeks. I had to sit down and experiment. Finally after about 30 shots I was able to achieve what I wanted. Stripes and circles I set a tripod up in front of the christmas tree (distance of 1.3 mtrs) I made sure the lights were blurred and then panned side to side and rested on the lights for the duration of the shot. Untouched except for an adjustment made to the WB Equipment – Canon 40D / Focal Length 85mm / Av f5.6 / Tv 8 secs / ISO 100 / Tripod

This artwork was featured on the front page of Imagekind This artwork was featured by RB groups: / Art in Math / Avante-Garde / Digital Abstracts & Patterns / Experimental / Available with other artwork at MY GALLERY This surreal artwork is a bit Daliesque in the sense of its unexpected shapes, and the depth of the landscape. The colors, the look of the ‘false’ sky, and the alien appearance of the landscape all lend an air of mystery and wonder to this artwork. Inspection reveals that the sky has folds in it, and is actually part of the rest of the scene. The entire artwork is just one large convoluted 3D object. The organic curves, gently flowing and turning in an unexpected composition, the muted orange and rust colors of the landscape, and the blues and yellows of the ‘enclosed’ sky, present themselves in an intriguing and unique interplay of light and color. There is some accidental symbolism in this art which is often overlooked. The result is an appealing, restful, and mysterious landscape that could only be found in the mind of its artist creator. Please join me and enjoy this view of my mental meanderings. Art by Kinnally™ What is a Giclee print? / (or “giclée”)
A simple glass bowl flecked with gold. I’ve experimented with the colours for each of these 3 shots.
Aight, so i moved on from photographing clouds to doing the same with fire flames. Progress eh….:))) / Well, this is a stiched pic the same manipulated fire. Changed colour, flipped and all….why? Because, personally i see some shapes here. Its like the figure (in shape of a ghost) on the left is fighting against the figure on the right, which looks like an owl. And my mum thinks they appear to be dancing. lol

“The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha”) is a novel written by Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes. ...” Alonso Quixano, a retired country gentleman in his fifties, lives in an unnamed section of La Mancha with his niece and a housekeeper. He has become obsessed with books of chivalry, and believes their every word to be true…. He decides to go out as a knight-errant in search of adventure. He dons an old suit of armor, renames himself “Don Quixote de la Mancha,” and names his skinny horse “Rocinante.” He designates a neighboring farm girl, Aldonza Lorenzo, as his lady love, renaming her Dulcinea del Toboso, while she knows nothing about this. Eventually, he “acquires” his iconic “helmet.”...Don Quixote approaches another neighbour, Sancho Panza, and asks him to be his squire, promising him governorship of an island. The dull-witted Sancho agrees, and the pair sneak off in the early dawn. It is here that their series of famous adventures begin, starting with Don Quixote’s attack on windmills that he believes to be ferocious giants”. ...La Musica a first experimental digital painting inspired by the Book by Miguel Cervantes…using a painting I did of a Windmill of La Mancha put thru’ redfield fractalius, an apophysis of the Characters& a moon I created in lunar cell..woot! wot FuN lol! .....

To highlight their similarity of function and form.. ..I have brought these two pairs of fixtures together. They were in the same public washroom, but not installed quite as close as seen here! Even if they had been, in this small location I could not have stepped back far enough to have framed the full height in one shot. / Three photos and much tinkering gave rise to this image. This was an experiment in combining several real-life views to achieve a new and realistic whole: an image that would appear simply to be a straightforward photo, but would then provoke a double-take. The basins, worktop, and side of the image all needed patching, curved lines had to be straightened, and alignments matched. / The lower edge of the worktop was not included in my original photos; so it (and its shadow on the vertical surface below) had to be fabricated.

Me and a friend discovered these cool thingies. They are huge and like 3 cylinders next to each other, used in construction i suppose. (5 meters high!! It says on them) / After a load of shots from a typical angle, from where they look like circles, i decided to play with shapes. Reflected shot! Obviously! What else could it be. / I like this for its slight oddness….and it has a casual feel to it….somehow / Looks even odder when flipped to either side 90 degrees. / I find slight oddness, lovely.
Ok, as a follow up to the previous shot, this is what I saw while doing this experiment. / Not satisfied at all yet. Still need to figure out the best light, angle, etc. But.. I did get something on the sensor. What I used, next to the D300 with a Tamron 90 mm F/2.8 macro lens was some washing-up liquid in a cup with water and a piece of iron wire, bending into a ring. / Just dip it into the liquid and carefully put it in from of the lens and juggle with the focus. Auto focus will not help you here, all manual.
Time for something different and not for the calendar. This one was made using a plugin. I have to confess, I’m really pleased with it. I hope you enjoy looking at it as much I enjoyed making it. Thank you for looking – all comments and criticisms are appreciated.
The bases for this frame is the image Structured Chaos, which I uploaded a few minutes ago. Now.. here is a question to you. / And please feel free to give your honest opinion. / The question is: Do you like this kind of processing? Or… is this stuff too much procesed, digi-junk, etc? Because, honestly… it’s a 4 or 5 click-kinda processing action to get from the original to the end reuslt, using Filters Unlimited v.2

Welcome to Experimental!!!

What follows is a lot of rambling but honestly, it’s vaguely interesting and probably important, especially if you are a new member!
Experimental is a group for NEW things.
It is a group for people experimenting with new forms of photography or artwork that they have not tried before and need feedback on. The group should contain some very unusual photographs and artwork in that may be quite off-the-wall.
Writing is also an experiment, so if you have an unusual idea, style or anything that you want to bounce of some other people, this is the place to do it!
Open to all people, amateurs, semi-professional AND professional photographers, writers, etc etc. All forms of art is allowed, but please only upload your best stuff to keep the quality high.
Feel free to add to and browse through our forums… suggesting ideas and processes, whatever you like!
Our group avatar is Sick of Disrespect by Johanne Brunet
Note to group members: We’ve decided to go approval only to try and control the size of the group a little better. So you now MUST INCLUDE a description of WHY your work is experimental, or IT WILL NOT BE APPROVED.
And sorry about the tacky group subtitle. It won’t happen again.
Both hosts to a certain extent share tasks within the group, but in general, if you have any problems with moderation contact Lozzle and any problems with competitions or forums then contact Jonny
Just because they generally know more about their own section, but theres no stopping you contacting the other one about something if you decide you don’t like one or anything (although I hope that won’t happen…we’re both lovely :D)
If you think your work isn’t just experimental for you, but new for the whole of art-kind (if that’s a word) – in other words, that is is Avant-Garde, please consider joining the new Avant-Garde Group
