This is another photo of the fabulous 1930’s wind-up Selecta Gramophone which lived in the front room of our friends home in Painswick, Gloucestershire. There is something aesthetically pleasing about this antique record player. This lovely Gramophone, as well as being a practical and useful piece of furniture, is beautifully crafted, artistically designed, and marvelously displayed. The oversized arm and needle head seems so tactile. I love this antique music machine. This is a HDR image combining 4 bracketed shots using Photomatix Pro for Macs. Slight adjustments in lighting and tone were done using the enhanced details tool. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / 28-300mm IS zoom lens / f/5 / 2.5 sec., 1.6 sec., 0.6 sec., 1/4 sec. / ISO 400
This lovely 1930’s wind-up Selecta Gramophone sits in the front room of our friends home in Painswick, Gloucestershire. This wonderful antique sits comfortably next to the bookcase and give the room so much character. After so many years, this beautiful piece of furniture still plays confidently today. The front doors of the gramophone open up to reveal the bellows allowing air to enter and exist. I can imagine this piece sitting on the table on a summers evening with the windows open and the lovely melodious music of Glenn Miller playing out. Ahhh! Those were the days, weren’t they! This US Hornet was sitting under portable floodlights on the apron of Avalon airport, Melbourne, during the 2009 Australian International Air Show. This angle caught my attention because the long, slender nose cone was partially in darkness and partially lit, while other surfaces were highlighted sharply against the inky-black night. The design of the engine intake, in particular, shows just how slender some of the leading surfaces are on this highly-regarded fighter jet. My challenge here was to achieve a strong composition and absolute clarity – without a tripod. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot without a tripod, using a Pentax K100D and a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F4.5, 1/15 sec, ISO 800, focal length 150mm. Avalon2009-5660

Photograph in portrait style – following a suggestion from fellow member, Russ. Mm. I do like it this way, but it takes away part of its meaning and its depth from the original idea, which was to make the glass and the light look isolated inside a huge black void. I’ll keep this one on site too thought. Thanks Russ XXX
This was my entry for the Yellow Pages Art Awards. The brief was “show us what you love about where you live” on a square-shaped artwork. For me, that is the beach and the view of Kapiti Island. Among other things, of course. The image shows my eye, with an image of a Kapiti beach and Kapiti Island. This entry didn’t make the finals but that’s ok by me, I love it anyway!! :) All resources used my own, taken on my Canon Powershot A480 P&S. Proudly New Zealand-made. :)
A Daisy A day / He remembers the first time he met her / He remembers the first thing she said / He remembers the first time he held her / And the night that she came to his bed / He remembers her sweet way of singin’ / Honey has somethin’ gone wrong / He remembers the fun and the teasin’ / And the reason he wrote her this song / I’ll give you a daisy a day dear / I’ll give you a daisy a day / I’ll love you until the rivers run still / And the four winds we know blow away / They would walk down the street in the evenin’ / And for years I would see them go by / And their love that was more than the clothes that they wore / Could be seen in the gleam of their eye / As a kid they would take me for candy / And I loved to go taggin’ along / We’d hold hands while we walked to the corner / And the old man would sing her his song / I’ll give you a daisy a day dear / I’ll give you a daisy a day / I’ll love you until the rivers run still / And the four winds we know blow away / Now he walks down the street in the evenin’ / And he stops by the old candy store / And I somehow believe he’s believin’ / He’s holdin’ her hand like before / For he feels all her love walkin’ with him / And he smiles at the things she might say / Then the old man walks up to the hilltop / And gives her a daisy a day / I’ll give you a daisy a day dear / I’ll give you a daisy a day / I’ll love you until the rivers run still / And the four winds we know blow away Remember this old song,by Jud Strunk.? / /
