Learning Journey....imagine.... by Cheryle
This image is about my learning journey. It is a combination of greylead drawing, watercolour and photoshop. I am exploring multi-literacy within my masters thesis and this is part of that exploration. Visual literacy is explored as a partner to text literacy in the emergent 21st century literacy practices. This is about dialogue and relationships and the story flows through multiple pathways as the viewer is earthed in the interconnected understandings at the base and then flows into the orange symbolising creativity and the blue symbolising communication. The window shows the sky which as Shaun Tan points out is about possibilities and new literacies that will grow beyond what can be seen on the page. This story is about personal exploration and invites you to join the conversation. Word and image are interwoven and the angel symbolises the insights that come when you start to explore your own learning journey.

Inspired by our trip to the gulf country. My partner was doing some fencing and I’d brought my sketch pad along! The Garden of Eden just appeared on the sketch pad!

I Dreamed You Dreamed Of Me by Lee Wilde
subject: This drawing was inspired by a dream I had a few nights ago, in which I was walking through a park at night and came across a naked man sleeping under a maple tree. There was more to the dream than I’ve drawn, but the key symbols and their meanings according to dreammoods.com are as follows. NIGHT: To have a dream that takes place at night, represents some major setbacks and obstacles in achieving your goals. There are some issues in your life that you are facing that are not too clear. You should put the issues aside so you can clear your head before coming back to it. PARK: To dream that you are at a park, represents a temporary escape from reality. It indicates renewal, meditation, and spirituality. It is also an indication of a readjustment period after a serious personal conflict or an ending of a passionate affair. MAPLE TREE: Balance, promise, practicality. NAKED MAN: If seeing a naked person in your dream disgusts you, it might signify anxiety about discovering the naked truth about that person or situation. It may also foretell of an illicit love affairs, loss of prestige and scandalous activities. On the other hand, if you do not have any problem with another’s nudity, then it implies that you see through people and accept them for who and what they are. SLEEP: To see others sleeping, is often a reflection of yourself and your own unconscious mind. It is indicative of how you may not be alert or informed about a particular situation. It may also beckon renewal and new beginnings. (I am moving to Melbourne in a few weeks.) medium: graphite and acrylic paint on 300gsm medium tooth paper. size: 42×59.4cm (A2) currently listening to: Secret Garden by Bruce Springsteen

The Travelling Circus by Sophie Appleby
‘The Travelling Circus’ is an experimental mixed media original that dances between the worlds of literature and art. This artwork is tells the tale of two lovers and a travelling circus. It has been created using: early 20th century napkins, doilies and postcards, new and preloved fabrics, vintage lace and tape measure, images and text from 1940’s novels, typewriter lettering and ink on cotton. This unique piece of art has been created with the depths of an early 20th century haberdashery store in mind. This mixed media original has been sewn onto 100% cotton and securely adhered onto an acid free 20.5×25.5×1.5cm canvas. Handmade in Australia.
