The Modern Warrior's Song by Songmistress
Viewing this large is a must!!! This is my first collab with someone other than my husband Jamie... and, he still had a hand in it because I borrowed one of his brilliant aged/grungy textures. So, I suppose you could call this an artistic threesome. ;) I asked the amazingly talented Rob Toombs if he would like to collaborate with me and do something in a fantasy composite vein. He was up for it and sent me his excellent self portrait Look Sharp, as I told him I have a thing for swords. At first I honestly had no clue what I was going to do…I’ve been experiencing a bit of “imageblock” the past few days and was seriously considering the possibility that my creativity had dried up all together…then inspiration (or something like it) struck last night while I was attempting to sleep. So…I scanned in some of my sheet music (remember, I’m a musician and vocalist first before any other sort of artist), part of a song that I feel is sort of like a modern times hymn/prayer: Train’s “Calling All Angels”. Various layer blending and filters were used, including my first experiment with the high pass filter, and textures were applied to give this the aged effect I wanted. And, the angel is one of my own manipulated self-portraits (which I have used before in the piece I’m Lovin Angels Instead ...but, I have to say, it’s much better used in this). Man, I hope it’s not crap, and I hope I did Rob’s portrait justice! I don’t normally write like this, i prefer rhyming poetry but this was the start of an unended essay so i edited it a bit and then tied in oner of my poems and this was the result. VIVA LA MUSIC!!
