Reflected sunset colours at Seahouses, Northumberland. Inner Farne in the distance.
Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland. / This is probably one of the most photographed areas on the North East coast and I keep returning. / The sun setting behind me gave the castle a warm glow and the reflected light from sun on a window adding to the reflection on the wet sand.

This week I had the pleasure of meeting Chris Carss (carss66 on Redbubble) and seeing him work on his paintings. Chris has just finished a fantastic portrait of the late Sir Bobby Robson and is wanting to auction it in aid of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Chris wants 100% of the profit to go to the charity and is seeking someone who an organise this. Here is the portrait, followed by other example of Chris’s work. St. Mary’s Lighthouse is on the tiny St. Mary’s Island, just north of Whitley Bay on the coast of North East England. / The lighthouse and adjacent keepers’ cottages were built in 1898 by the John Miller company of Tynemouth, using 645 blocks of stone and 750,000 bricks. / During the 19th century there was an inn, known as the ‘Square and Compass’, on the island, run by a Mr. George Ewen. In 1895, after complaints about rowdy customers trespassing on nearby land, the landlord , Lord Hastings, had Mr. Ewen and his family evicted from the island.

Epipsychidion A ship is floating in the harbour now, / A wind is hovering o’er the mountain’s brow; / There is a path on the sea’s azure floor, / No keel has ever plough’d that path before; / The halcyons brood around the foamless isles; / The treacherous Ocean has forsworn its wiles; / The merry mariners are bold and free: / Say, my heart’s sister, wilt thou sail with me? “Commanding a vital ford over the River Tweed, Norham was one of the strongest of the border castles, and the most often attacked by the Scots. Besieged at least 13 times – once for nearly a year by Robert Bruce – it was called ‘the most dangerous and adventurous place in the country’. But even its powerful 12th-century keep and massive towered bailey walls could not resist James IV’s heavy cannon, and it fell to him in 1513, shortly before his defeat at Flodden. The extensive 16th-century rebuilding which followed, adapting the fortress for its own artillery, is still clearly traceable” – English Heritage Shot taken at Norham Castle, Northumberland, with Panasonic Lumix G1, 14-45mm lens. Three separate exposures merged into HDR in CS3. Best viewed in large format. Also from the Norham Castle series:
