There are so many varieties of begonias in the Butchart Gardens,Victoria,Vancouver Island,B.C., it’s impossible not to shoot hundreds of pictures in an afternoon. This beautiful cluster took my eye because of the beautiful orange-red shades and the way the colours were brought out by the light mist that was on the blossoms. / Butchart Gardens are a National Historic Site of Canada and have been blooming since 1904. They are an easy access from Victoria and the visitors number in the millions. July 12, 2009, Sony DSCF828 camera / /

All Souls College Antechapel Window Canon G9 ISO 80 1/40 at f2.8 Most of the antechapel windows contain fifteenth-century stained glass. All Souls College (in full: The Warden and College of the Souls of all Faithful People deceased in the University of Oxford) is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in England. Unique to All Souls, all of its members automatically become Fellows, i.e., full members of the College’s governing body. It has no undergraduate members. Every year, the top finalists of the University in the humanities are invited to sit the examination in Classics, English, Economics, History, Law, Philosophy and Politics for fellowship of the College. About two are elected to fellowship each year. These Fellows are known as Prize Fellows, their term of office is seven years and roughly a dozen are at the college at any one time. Other categories of fellowship include Senior Research Fellows, Post-Doctoral Research Fellows, Fifty-Pound Fellows (open only to former Fellows no longer holding posts in Oxford) and Distinguished Fellows. There are also many Professorial Fellows who hold their fellowships by reason of their University post. Text Courtesy of Wikipedia
All Souls College, Oxford Canon G9 ISO 80 1/500 at f4.0 Texture overlay courtesy of SkeletalMess Facing Radcliffe Square is the eastern side of Hawksmoor’s quadrangle, the ‘grand dormitory’ of fellows’ rooms, with common rooms on the ground floor. The three-storey facade is broken by the extraordinary twin towers, as if the west front of a medieval cathedral had been dropped into an Oxford college. As Sir Howard Colvin put it, ‘Gothic used scenically and romantically, but within the conventions of a classical tradition… a unique episode in English architecture.’ All Souls College (in full: The Warden and College of the Souls of all Faithful People deceased in the University of Oxford) is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in England. Clarendon Building, Oxford Canon G9 ISO 80 1/250 at f4.0 Texture overlay courtesy of SkeletalMess The Clarendon Building is a landmark Grade I listed building in Oxford, England, owned by the University of Oxford. It was built between 1711 and 1713 to house the Oxford University Press. It stands in the centre of the city in Broad Street, near the Bodleian Library and the Sheldonian Theatre. It was vacated by the Press in the early nineteenth century, and used by the university for administrative purposes. In 1975 it was handed over to the Bodleian Library, and now provides office and meeting space for senior members of staff. The building was designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor (Christopher Wren’s greatest pupil) and built between 1711 and 1715 to house the Press’s printing operations. Before the construction of the Clarendon Building, the presses were in the basement of the Sheldonian Theatre, and the compositors could not work when the Theatre was in use for ceremonies. The building was financed largely from the proceeds of the commercially successful History of the Great Rebellion by Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon, whose money also paid for the building of the Clarendon Laboratory in Oxford. 1. You don’t have to be from Poland to join this group. Everyone is welcome.
