Just after crashing rain for about 4 hours the clouds parted. The lake was so calm after beating the shores. I had to go out to document the change.

This area offers a tremendous diversity of recreational and sightseeing opportunities. Lake Louise is home to one of North America’s finest downhill ski areas, and has numerous hiking and walking trails. The region abounds with spectacular scenery, from glaciers to waterfalls. The Village of Lake Louise is on the Trans-Canada Highway fifty-seven kilometers (thirty-five miles) west of Banff. / (http://www.discoverlakelouise.com) / Lake Louise is fed by glacial runoff from Victoria Glacier. Like many of the lakes in the Rockies the water is either deep green or blue. This is caused by fine sediments called “rock flour” floating in the water. Rock flour is fine powdery rock that has been crushed and ground by a glacier. Lake Louise is a beautiful green color, but Peyto Lake, (further north on the Icefields Parkway) is a rich baby blue. / (http://albertatravel.org) / / / Mounted Print / Photo taken with Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT; Dynamic Photo HDR / Shutter speed 1/800 / Lens aperture F/8 / Focal length 18mm / ISO400

A scene I have often passed by, but either the light was wrong, or I didn’t have the time. / On this occasion, things fell into place, except for the fact that I had left my tripod at home !! DOH !! (on a shopping trip for provisions to Fort William !) / It is a hand-held three shot hdr, because of the extreme lighting. / Loch Lochy is reputed to have a “monster” like Loch Ness ! Shot on my Canon EOS50D, iso 100, auto wb, three RAW’s at -2EV, +2EV,0EV, hand held braced against a bush for added stability, Canon 17-85mm IS lens set at 53mm, f11, processed in Photomatix, then Adobe CS3, with colour adjustments, and more selective levels / curves. Featured in Mountains and Light – January 8, 2009 / Featured in Canada…The Great White North – September 2, 2008 Peyto Lake is a glacier fed lake in the Mistaya Valley, Banff-Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. / During the summer, significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise color. Because of its bright color, photos of the lake often appear in illustrated books, and area around the lake is a popular sightseeing spot for tourists in the park. The lake is best seen from Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefield Parkway. The lake is fed by the Peyto Creek, which drains water from the Caldron Lake and Peyto Glacier (part of the Wapta Icefield), and flows into the Mistaya River. The lake is formed in a valley of the Waputik Range, between Caldron Peak, Peyto Peak and Mount Jimmy Simpson, at an elevation of 1,860 m (6,100 ft). On this day in September 2006, the sun created shadows across the water, from the clouds. Taken with Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. / 140 views as of November 9, 2009 / / Framed Print

Wonderful reflections on a pond in Westford, MA.
Our world has many wonderful Rivers and Lakes, natural and man made, and this is the group to showcase your photos, drawings and paintings of these wonderful waterways, that have a Lake or Inland Waterway as the main focus with little or very little human intervention ie. nothing that removes our eyes from the main focal point of the image, that being the Body Of Water. Please do add the name of the river, lake or dam – this group represents bodies of water from all around the globe so it is always interesting to know where it is located!
DEFINITIONS.
A Lake can be natural or man made. The body of water held back by a dam construction is also known as a dam or reservoir. So the definition of Lake in this group includes the bodies of water that are “dams & reservoirs”.
An Inland Waterway in this group is a natural river or a man made waterway such as a canal, again with an artistic approach showing the water and not the surrounds, ie. buildings etc…
