I’ve been a little hesitant to upload this image, mainly due to the subject matter. / However, i feel it shows a changing pattern in culture, especially in London, where people, including children, pitch up on the pavement, and sell what ever they have, this kid had a multitude of T.V. remotes, some random cables, women’s shoes, and a bike pump. / I gave him a pound for letting me take his photograph, and a business card, of course. / Shot with canon eos 450D, and compassion.

Family in a rural village in Laos. Laos was a French colony at the start of the 20th century. It was a union of two former kingdoms, Luang Prabang and Vientiane. The French administered it as a territory within the protectorate of French Indo-China. After World War II, French Indo-China was divided up into three independent countries within the French Union: Cambodia, Laos (independent on 1949-07-19), and Vietnam. Staying over night in the village, at the whimsical invitation of a woman I met on a local bus, was one of the best chances I ever took on my travels. Spending a couple days with the children, families and elders of this village will remain one of my most memorable of experiences. They were all precious!!! Second in a series I have just begun. There’s a group on Flickr called $2 Portraits (very simple concept: approach people on the street, ask if you can take their picture for $2). I read about it a few months ago, and liked the idea, but have just now gotten around to putting it into action. Here is the blog post written by the guy who started this project, and who also started the Flickr group for those who want to do this. Camera: Canon EOS 50D (24-105mm lens) / Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/400) / Aperture: f/4.5 / Focal Length: 84 mm / ISO Speed: 100

Where ever you go they are ignored . The homeless are everywhere . But people just walk on by , as if the person did not exist . He was sleeping on the Seal Beach Pier . I finally woke him up and gave him my card and some cash . The wonderful thing today is that we met a young lady named Stacy . She was on the beach and be began to discuss the homeless . She is part of a group who help women who have been divorced and have nothing , get back on their feet . They prepare them on how to do an interview for a job , provide them with clothes and meals . Image captured in a small rural town outside of Shenzhen, China. Factories and farming dominate the activity of this town. Among the tons of factories, there were apartment dwellings for the people working in these factories. The majority of these people came from outside provinces for work. I found the people living here to be very gentle, innocent and curious. Needless to say, I was very shocked to see this mother and child living in this make-shift home in between new and dilapidated buildings….it was and is a rather heart wrenching scene to me. Nana korobi, ya oki. / A Japanese proverb….. / Literal translation: Seven falls, eight getting up. / Meaning: An encouragement to keep going no matter how tough it is.
