If you ever want a photographic challenge, stand in front of one of those giant carnival machines and try and track the carriages in order to get a clean panning effect. Very challenging and I think, once you master carnival rides, panning on a normal street should be dead easy. / Photographed at the Royal Melbourne Show Featured in the “Speed” group
“She’s a child of the wild blue yonder / Flying out of here…” / -John Hiatt/”Child Of The Wild Blue Yonder” Nikon D70/Nikon 75-300mm zoom. I went to an air show today at Greenwood Lake Airport. There were several world-class acrobatic pilots flying… or should I call them magicians? I’m still not sure I actually saw some of the amazing things these guys can do up in the sky.
There’s a story that has done the rounds in Sydney for ages about a ghost ship that plies the harbour. It was once a ferry that worked the harbour, before the bridge was built. It sank in fog one cold winter’s night and all on it perished. You’d think that most Australians could swim however, it being winter, they had their winter woollies on which dragged them all down. Their cries wafted across the water borne by the Sirens out of the thick fog and were heard on shore by those waiting for the ferry to arrive. Many a gentle soul perished that night in circumstances so wretched. I took this photo this evening however, I didn’t think much of it when I saw it in the camera lcd screen as it seemed underexposed. When I loaded it onto my computer I could make out some sort of ghostly image. I increased the lighting a bit and then increased the contrast to previously unexplored levels and the ghost ship materialised before my very eyes. Old fisherman/wives tale? I think not!

Drift car at the Oran Park Drift Nationals
I cant believe how relaxed this fella looks.
The World’s only formation wingwalking team is the best loved civilian air display act in Europe
This is a shot taken at the drift nationals at Oran Park. This little car was drifting just as good as the higher powered, more dramatic entrants. The little ‘rolla was being pushed hard though – entering corners with amazing speed and aggression, which resulted in incidents like these where the front wheel was off the road. The best thing? He caught it.

A drone fly wanting to share the buddleia blossom with a Comma Butterfly in my York garden. I had been concentrating on what could be the last butterfly of the season high in my last flowering tree, when I spotted the drone fly speeding in. I just had enough time to slightly shift focus from Comma to the drone fly. / 021109 / Pansonic G1 crop pf 45-200mm lens / 021109 “The best and most beautiful things in the world, cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart” Helen Keller George Moore 1852-1933 “Man travels the world in search of what he needs, returns home and finds it.” Nostradamus 1503-1566 “Time is nothing, the desire to love is everything.” / / One with the earth… / Mui-Ling Teh “This is the path I have chosen, no matter what circumstances may come, no matter how hard it is, no matter what I feel inside, I must stay on the path.” Unknown This sky where we live / Is no place to lose your wings. / So love, love, love. / Hafiz حافظ Human beings are members of a whole, / In creation of one essence and soul. / If one member is afflicted with pain, / Other members uneasy will remain. / If you have no sympathy for human pain, / The name of human you cannot retain. / Saadi “Of one Essence is the human race, / thus has Creation put the base; / One Limb impacted is sufficient / For all Others to feel the Mace ” / —Saadi (1184–1283) “There is only one sacred manuscript, the sacred manuscript of Nature, which alone can enlighten the reader.” Hazrat Inayat Khan All profits from my sales will be donated to Butterfly Conservation.
