Growing through my fence from the neighbors yard, was this pretty little purple flower. A delight to see after all the rain. Another little sign that Spring is in the air.

Acrylic painting (46×61 cm) of a daisy from my garden. last spring. I was inspired by the way the petals caught the sun and I’ve tried to capture this with broad loose brush strokes to retain the freshness and immediacy of the light and the emergence of the flower from its dark surroundings. Although this plant isn’t really credited with actually helping medicinally? At one time a popular herbalist stated that it was good for ‘taking away in one or two nights any bruise, black eye or spots gotten by falls or women’s willfulness, in stumbling upon hasty husbands’ fists’ -John Gerard (1597 / Nice to know a plant can heal bruises inside and out. / The beautiful greenish/yellow blooms are seen dangling under the arched leafy stems in May-July in woods and along creeks and riverbanks.

Photograph of Morning Glory taken in June 2008. Courtesy Wikimedia / The genus Ipomoea (pronounced /ˌɪpoʊˈmiːə/, from the Greek ips ~ ipos, wormweed or bindweed, and homoeos, resembling, referring to the twining habit) is the largest in the family Convolvulaceae, with over 500 species. Most of these are called “morning glories”, but this can refer to related genera also. Those formerly separated in Calonyction (Greek καλός, kalos, good and νύκτα, nycta, night) are called “moonflowers”. The genus occurs throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, and comprises annual and perennial herbaceous plants, lianas, shrubs and small trees; most of the species are twining climbing plants. Human use of Ipomoea is threefold: First, most species have spectacular, colorful flowers and are often grown as ornamental plants, and a number of cultivars have been developed. Their deep flowers attract large Lepidoptera – especially Sphingidae such as the Pink-spotted Hawkmoth (Agrius cingulata) -, or even hummingbirds. Second, the genus includes food crops; the tubers of Sweet Potato and the leaves of Water Spinach are commercially important food items and have been for millennia. The Sweet Potato is one of the Polynesian “canoe plants”, transplanted by settlers on islands all over that ocean. Water Spinach is used all over eastern Asia and the warmer regions of the Americas as a key component of well-known dishes such as Canh chua rau muống (Mekong sour soup) or Callaloo; its numerous local names attest to its popularity. Other species are used on a smaller scale, e.g. the Whitestar Potato (I. lacunosa) traditionally eaten by some Native Americans like the Chiricahua Apaches, or the Australian Bush Potato (I. costata). Peonidin, an anthocyanidin potentially useful as a food additive, is present in significant quantities in the flowers of the “Heavenly Blue” cultivars. My Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. Nikon D70 This was one of my favorite flowers from when I was a child. My family traveled up to Canada every year and went fishing; always on the way up we would see these beautiful red flowers! I was so happy to find them when we went to Nevada this spring! They are a little smaller but just as beautiful!
Pear trees are the first trees that show their flowers in spring. / This one I found in “Altes Land”, a region in northern Germanys where lots of fruit trees are grown. You can find information about this region on wikipedia.org / I hope you like this image. Have a great day! / Kindest regards, Britta Image taken in early April. I am not that sure if it is a pear tree. I was told so but maybe it is an apple? Any hints? /
