5.6.09 – Taken with a Fujifilm 10mp s8100. A very bright late evening sun (around 9.30 pm) dipping down over Bowfell & Esk Pike, lighting up the valley below the Langdales, in The Lake District. I have been lucky enough to sell one of these as a poster:

The annual beach race at Weston super Mare in Somerset, England. It’s a 3 mile 3 hour endurance race. The sand certainly flies and I got covered in it… Taken with my Nikon D50 70-300mm lens
/ This is an image of an old wooden fishing vessel in the Port Townsend Marina in Port Townsend Washington where I live. I have just recently started to play around with HDR and this is my first attempt at it.
Taken at Churchill National Park in Lysterfield, Victoria. I wanted to try something a bit more ‘out there’ with this shot, I wasn’t content with an ordinary sunset shot, as attractive as it was. Let me know what you think of it, because I’m not quite sure what to think! I like it but I’m not sure if its just ‘too much’. Shot with a Nikon D200, 28-70mm lens at 48mm, F/16, 100 ISO, polarizer. 9 shot HDR, tone mapped twice, once for the foreground and once for the sky. Merged/mapped in Photomatix and assembled in Photoshop. BEST VIEWED LARGER The story: Lawrence Norton and I decided to go and explore some fire access trails at Churchill NP which is only about 5 mins from my house. During the nightmare bushfire season this year not even this little park was safe. So with his trusty old FJ40 Landcruiser we managed to get to the top of the hill beneath these massive electrical towers, where we caught an awesome sunset. Because the fires had only just been extinguished in that area barely a few days earlier, police and the CFA were still on the lookout for suspicious behavior, and a police helicopter spotted us and was circling above us at one stage looking at what we were doing. The chopper eventually flew away but then about half an hour later we realised exactly why it was so curious as to what we were up to; a fire had broken out in the valley barely 200 meters from where we were shooting. Fire trucks were driving right past us and by that stage it was getting dark so they didn’t spot us. It was an interesting evening!

Ewer Village, West Papua, Indonesia. After receiving a rousing canoe welcoming ceremony, a local woman greeted our group to her village in West Papua (comprising the western half of the island of New Guinea). Ewer village is located far up a wide, muddy river virtually in the middle of nowhere. Despite encroaching trappings of western culture, Asmat tribespeople of Ewer village still cling to traditional cultural practices, including the important aforementioned canoe ceremony, an economy where wealth is determined by amassing pigs and yams, and the rhythm of the river’s daily ebb and flow. Canon 10D, Canon 100-400mm lens, shutter 1/125, f/9.5, focal length 400mm, ISO 100. Photographed in natural light. March 16, 2007.

Taken at Springbrook National Park at The Natural Bridge on the 5th of October, 2009. The following evening we came back to view the glow worms on the cave walls, it was definitely an amazing experience (minus the stupid people shining their torches straight onto the glow worms, smoking near them and using camera flash!). A few hours after a couple of my colleagues declared that power lines were most definitely the most boring sight in the world, I decided to see if I could find an interesting perspective. I drove out to a great lookout point, about 40 kilometres (25 miles) away from the city centre. There is a long, deep valley here and although I was hoping for a dramatic sunset, there was no flaring colour to work with. Then I suddenly realised, as dusk faded, that all I had to do was swap my 18-125mm lens for my 70-300mm lens and use the wonderful series of shapes and silhouettes that surrounded the gentle arc of the power lines, against the monochrome of the sky. By shooting from this angle and keeping the frame asymmetrical, I was able to highlight the shapes, while allowing the pylons to disappear into the distance. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F5.6, 1/45 sec, ISO 800, focal length 300mm. 73-3897
Please View Large Wikipedia © It was founded as a Savigniac abbey in January 1135 and was absorbed by the Cistercian order in 1147. It wasn’t an easy start for the community who had had to move five times before settling at New Byland, near Coxwold in 1177. Its early history was marked by disputes with no fewer than four other religious establishments: (Furness Abbey, Calder Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey and Newburgh Priory). However, once it had overcome this bad start, it was described in the late 1300s as “one of the three shining lights of the north”. Its financial success was not as great as that of places like Rievaulx, but it was famed for its sheep rearing and wool exports. Its church was said to be among the finest 12th-century churches in Europe. It was dissolved on 30 November 1538. In 1539, its site was granted to Sir William Pickering. Nikon D300 / Sigma 18-200mm

In this group you can submit any form of your art from anywhere in the world.
We want to see where you are, so in the description of your art please include where it was taken, drawn, or written
We would really like to see diversity in the art, as in from many different places. This is a good way for anyone to express their travel experiences by their art.
We would like it if there were less submissions of Collages. One photo or piece of art per entry, no need to put five photos in one!
Also please don’t add tons of your work all in one day because It doesn’t give others a chance to view other peoples work as easily. Try to add 1 or 2 photos a day
Those are the rules, Its that simple.
