A Tiger cub is quite secure in it’s surroundings at the St. Louis Zoo, USA. Who would interrupt this loving moment ? As you might have deduced, I am completely taken by these babies !

Hero by Mundy Hackett
This is the unframed version without a quote attached. There have been requests for this version. Captive “The youth, intoxicated with his admiration of a hero, fails to see, that it is only a projection of his own soul, which he admires.” Ralph Waldo Emerson Who is you’re hero? / / Name: Panthera tigris sumatrae (Sumatran Tiger) Description: The Sumatran tiger has the darkest coat of all tigers. Its broad, black stripes are closely spaced and often doubled. Unlike the Siberian tiger, it has striped forelegs. Sumatran tigers are the smallest tiger subspecies. Males average 2.4 meters (8 feet) in length from head to tail and weigh about 120 kilograms (264 pounds). Females measure approximately 2.2 meters (7 feet) in length and weigh about 90 kilograms (198 pounds). Distribution: The Sumatran tiger is found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra in habitat that ranges from lowland forest to submontain and montain forest with some peat-moss forest. Biology: The Sumatran tiger eats wild pig, big deer (called rusa), and small deer (called muntjak or barking deer). The specific range size of this tiger is not know, however the population density is approximately 4–5 adult tigers/100 km 2 (39 mile 2) in optimal lowland rainforest. As elevation increases through submontain and montain forests, the number of tigers in any given area decreases because there is less prey available. Status in the wild: 400-500 wild Sumatran tigers were believed to exist in 1998, primarily in the island’s national park areas, but no island-wide census or monitoring system has been possible. Tiger numbers have continued to decline because of poaching of tigers to supply the illegal trade in tiger parts. The last remnants of lowland forest are being eliminated to establish oil palm plantations and for shifting agriculture by recent settlers from other areas of Sumatra and Indonesia. Ongoing road development makes many formerly inaccessible mountain areas accessible to illegal logging even on the steepest slopes, and many mountainous areas are being converted into plantations for coffee and other products for international markets. Tigers are legally protected but are not highly valued. Captive breeding: For three years, the Indonesian Zoological Parks’ Association (PKBSI) has been working with the Tiger Global Conservation Strategy to develop a conservation program for Sumatran tigers. In addition to the 65 Sumatran tigers living in Indonesian zoos, there are 55 tigers managed by North American zoos, 100 in European zoos, and 12 in Australasian zoos. This captive population is descended from 37 wild-caught founders. The Indonesian Sumatran Tiger Masterplan now has the potential to function as the heart of the Sumatran tiger population worldwide. It is designed to preserve sufficient genetic diversity to reinforce both captive and wild populations, thus fulfilling its goal to ensure that the in situ tiger program comprises verifiable founders permanently identified and registered in the Indonesian Sumatran Tiger Studbook. It also extends the capabilities of Indonesian zoo staff to professionally manage their tiger programs in Indonesia, and at the same time serves as a model for other range country tiger management programs in Southeast Asia.

Stalker by starbucksgirl26
Amur tiger cub, Zoya, stalking me across the yard and attempting to ‘kill’ me. She is an absolute joy to be around! Amur tiger (Panthera tigris altaica), one of 5 remaining subspecies of tiger. The Amur tiger (formally known as Siberian) has the longest pelage (coat) of any of the other subspecies due to the cold climate that they live in. All tigers have four canines, and they only ever turn ‘man-hunter’ when they are old or sick and more than two of the canines are broken. The Amur tigers are the largest of all tigers, weighing in at as much as 700 pounds-though 400-600 is more common. To learn more about the conservation efforts for Amur tigers click this link: www.savethetigerfund.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home1 / Note-this is just one of many organizations helping tigers!

Mouth of a killer...beware! by starbucksgirl26
So she was about 2 months old here, and if I remember correctly just starting to get her molars in. During her teething she would suck on anyone’s fingers, hands, arms…whatever to try and ease the pain a bit. I have another photo of her latched onto my arms and sucking on my wrist that I will post up for enjoyment, it isn’t so much for quality.

Eye Of The Tiger by Rhonda Walker
Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor Risin’ up, back on the street / Did my time, took my chances / Went the distance, now I’m back on my feet / Just a man and his will to survive So many times, it happens too fast / You change your passion for glory / Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past / You must fight just to keep them alive It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the cream of the fight / Risin’ up to the challenge of our rival / And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night / And he’s watchin’ us all in the eye of the tiger Face to face, out in the heat / Hangin’ tough, stayin’ hungry / They stack the odds ‘til we take to the street / For we kill with the skill to survive It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the cream of the fight / Risin’ up to the challenge of our rival / And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night / And he’s watchin’ us all in the eye of the tiger Risin’ up, straight to the top / Have the guts, got the glory / Went the distance, now I’m not gonna stop / Just a man and his will to survive It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the cream of the fight / Risin’ up to the challenge of our rival / And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night / And he’s watchin’ us all in the eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger

Games Tigers Play by Catherine Howell
I created this drawing to enter in the challenge for the Tiger Tiger Group. A fantasy sort of idea about a tiger playing in the water…with “WATER TORNADOES:):)” This drawing took around seven days to complete. I used Faber Castell, polychromos art pencils to draw this piece with. Thanks, Patricia Anne, for your friendliness and encouragement concerning my work. I quit creating for years and a few years ago I made the decision to pick up my pencil again and start creating. I just did not realize how bad I missed it. These challenges are excellent, regardless of the outcome, because it challenges me to think up ideas and then I attempt to put my thoughts onto paper, which allows me to hopefully grow as an artist. Thanks for viewing my work:) cathy

Steve’s_Biography The tiger (Panthera tigris) is a member of the Felidae family; the heaviest of the four “big cats” in the genus Panthera. Native to much of eastern and southern Asia, the tiger is an apex predator and an obligate carnivore. Reaching up to 4 metres (13 ft) in total length and weighing up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds), the larger tiger subspecies are comparable in size to the biggest extinct felids. Aside from their great bulk and power, their most recognizable feature is the pattern of dark vertical stripes that overlays near-white to reddish-orange fur, with lighter underparts. The largest subspecies of tiger is the Siberian tiger.

About This Group
In my view Tigers are the most beautiful cats alive, I dearly love them. There are only 5 Tiger groups alive today, 3 are now gone and Siberian Tiger only have less than 400 living in the wild.
This group is for people who LOVE tigers and for people who want to know more about them. The art can be in any form BUT it MUST be of TIGERS the CAT not a flower, not a person named tiger not even a butterfly.
You can post art that promotes saving tigers, but it must have a tiger in it not just the stripes or paw prints.
I will post a few Save the tiger links and we all can add to the list as we go.
We may have a few contest in this group, tho I am not big on it.
