Sometimes, when you camp near the top of the mountain, you take away moments like this one, which was etched into my memory while camping in the Sierra around Kennedy Lake, in the High Sierra country of California. Kennedy Lake is about 12 miles east of Kennedy Meadows, which sits literrally at the western base of the Sierra on Sonora Pass – almost directly east from San Francisco. I created this piece using spray paint and acrylic. The original is 42 inches by 26 inches. Featured in “Light in the Darkness” and “United States” in July 2009.

Lt. John Stepp of the Gastonia North Carolina Fire Department. In 1975 you could still smoke in a public building . Stepp liked to sit next to a second floor window waiting for the next fire call. I knew he would smile when he realized I had shot his pic so it was a real snap shot. A second later and the mood had changed. / Nikon FTN/F36 with 105mm lens Kodak Tri-X 125sec/f8 / / “Lt. This photo shows the clarity of Lake Tahoe. Rocks under water appear closer than the actually are in this abstract photo. Notice the ripples on the water from a gentle breeze…Lynn
I guess I am enjoying the selective color deal today as I am playing with some colors and classic cars….enjoy the vette as much as I did in taking this photo

I thought this would be something unique as these ladies dressed up in 50’s dress as they stood in front of a 55 Chevy Bel Air…
Photo taken in the state of Washington on the Colville Indian Reservation. The US Federal Government purchased the northern part of the reservation in the 1800’s. They opened it to logging and later to homestead, mainly for the US Veterans of World War One. This log home dates back to 1916-1925, not really for sure of the exact date, but based on other structures in the area this is fairly close. This home sets two miles off the main road and is located on a magnificent piece of property with the home on a slight rise overlooking the fields that was once farmed by this family. This home was abandoned in the early 1950,s and is still owned by the Jared decedents but not visited since it was abandoned. I am saddened to see a great piece of history surccumbing to heavy snows and vandalism. / JARED SHED / / FRAMED PRINT / / GREETING CARD /
I love the sounds of bagpipes, but what is more interesting is the characters who have worked hard to master the instrument which in some ways seems more alive than the people who play them….Luck of the Irish to every lad and lass who stop by to check out this photo…

About This Group
This is a great place to start if you want to find work from anywhere in the 50 states or to link up with American artists, writers and photographers.
Guidelines
1. Given the size of this group please limit your work to your top 10 US related images. I do not have the rb limit because it basically kicks you out after reaching the limit but like other group leads I delete older works when people post over ten images. I don’t mind rotating works to keep people interested in the group.
2. We recommend that your images showcase something about the US you think is important.
For non US residents please feel free to share something (writing, art or photography) of your American travels.
I’m a Vet so no demeaning comments and images about the U.S. as a whole. I didn’t serve to get dumped on.
The Avatar that used to be monthly is being changed to be the Top Winner of a challenge and it will stay up till the next challenge winner.
Challenges remember are supposed to be fun! The top six will have their images featured for a minimum of a week on the group’s home page. Mark will still randomly select six images to be featured. The top winner will also be a featured artist. The random pick featured artist will still remain. Featured art and artist are selected by content of what you post and relevance to the time of the year.
