I was driving through downtown Chicago after the Air and Water Show was cancelled due to storms. Rain stopped and I opened sunroof on my car. Light is always somewhat different after heavy rain. My guess is that rain scrubs dust…I couldn’t resist the view and took few shots of Chicago architecture (1-5) / All shats are few blocks away from Chicago Federal Reserve Bank. Palm Beach is on the left with the Pacific Ocean/Tasman Sea. On the right is Station Beach and Broken Bay. This is what is known as a Tombolo I love that word…it just rolls off the tongue, Tombolo, tombolo, tombolo…... (At least I amuse myself, if no-one else!) ;-) There is a walkway down the middle of the bushland. It’s very sandy and difficult to walk along and very, very hot, sticky and airless on a summer’s day. If you’re going to walk to the lighthouse, the best way to go is along Station Beach, close to the water where the sand is hard packed and easier to walk on. You’ll then see signs closer to the headland that will direct you to one of two paths. One is very difficult and not for the faint hearted. It’s mostly steps and steep inclines. We went up this one and were huffing and puffing by the time we reached the top, but it was fun, in a masochistic kinda way. The second walkway is much wider and has a gentler slope. We took this on the way back down and found it tough going for some reason. We wished we had gone back down the harder way! The tide was way, way out when I took these photos. You can see the exposed green sea weed along the shoreline of Station Beach. Photo taken from the top of the headland where the lighthouse is situated, 350ft above sea level. Best on Full Size This image was taken at the same time on October 10, 2009, and in relatively the same spot, as Almost Home but I was turned in the other direction, looking back the way I’d come. This area is within the Blue Knob State Park in Pavia, Pennsylvania on the extension of Pavia Road (4035). Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200m vr Nikon lens, hand held. Shutter 1/400, aperture f/10.0, exp. 0.00, iso 1,000. Duplicates created in Photoshop to an eval of +3, +1 and -3 and processed in Photomatix Pro for hdr, then returned to Photoshop for the addition of two textures and some tweaking. Well, actually, considerable tweaking. How do the road workers know to put their obnoxious signs RIGHT where I want to snap a shot??? And as for the RVers off to the left … well .. thank heavens for the clone tool, LOL!!! Featured on RedBubble “Art – Featured Art & Photography” page 11/4/09. WHEEEEEEE!!!! / My thanks to Princess of Shadows at Deviant Art for the textures.

This US Hornet was sitting under portable floodlights on the apron of Avalon airport, Melbourne, during the 2009 Australian International Air Show. This angle caught my attention because the long, slender nose cone was partially in darkness and partially lit, while other surfaces were highlighted sharply against the inky-black night. The design of the engine intake, in particular, shows just how slender some of the leading surfaces are on this highly-regarded fighter jet. My challenge here was to achieve a strong composition and absolute clarity – without a tripod. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot without a tripod, using a Pentax K100D and a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F4.5, 1/15 sec, ISO 800, focal length 150mm. Avalon2009-5660

This is a group to showcase artwork in which all the focal lines converge to a single point. (That’s a single point, not horizons. There are many wonderful groups to showcase horizons, again we ask the submissions to this group include a Vanishing point.) We define a vanishing point as a point where the main lines in the photo converge or the main subject line points infinately into the distance.
Vanishing Points is just one of 1680 creative groups powered by RedBubble.
