Size: 8×10 inches / Medium: Acrylic / Support: Hardboard This is one of the commissions I worked on earlier this year (2009). The model Monty is a blind Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie). The reference photo given to me was not good enough to work from, so I searched my sources and found this beautiful sleeping Sheltie in Wet Convas. My client was very happy with the result, so I was too. :)

Mother and Baby White Rhino by Tom Godfrey
I did this pencil sketch of a mother white rhino and her calf after a photographic trip to a reserve in South Africa. The game guard was kind enough to drive around to give me better angles for the light and shadow. I did an acrylic painting from this sketch, but the sketch has always had a charm for me, that I was never quite able to capture in the finished painting. I added the sepia effect later which somehow recreates a feeling of my youth in the bush of Africa better. I guess I am a little like an ageing newspaper now :) I never did find out how her ear got torn, but I like to think it was in brave defence of her baby.

A group for artists who love to paint wildlife and pets in a realist style using oils, acrylics, pastels, drawings and water colours. The group will be open to everyone who feels strongly about conservation and animals and who love wildlife and pet art.
Wildlife and pets must be the main focus of the painting. This also includes amphibians, reptiles, birds, insects and sea life.
An opportunity to showcase your best and most loved wildlife and pet paintings.
Please note: This group is primarily for hand painted realist wildlife and pets paintings. For people who support conservation, love their pets or just love to see and talk about wildlife and pet paintings… you are most welcome to join in and share your views and affections with us. If you love to write about wildlife and/or your adored pet, we would love to hear from you.
Photographs and digital art will not be accepted. There are many groups on RedBubble for photographers and digital artists but only a few for traditional painters.
Please don’t submit abstract paintings… there are groups for abstract artists.
In the description of your work, please include medium, support and dimensions. For example: Oils on canvas (20×30 inches).
