The water feature inside the cathedral in the United Kingdom. This is a HDR image from 3 shots taken 2 stops apart and then worked over. Nikon D90 and a Sigma 10-20mm lens @ 10mm f13 and I used a tripod because the exposure was down in the region of seconds. HDR has been used to try and capture the tones of the interior of the church and give a pretty true representation of it.

Noosa Headlands, in the Noosa National Park, Queensland, Australia. This one looking NW, you can make out Noosa Northshore in the very far distance. Taken at the Okavango Delta, Botswana (Southern Africa). We were taken out for a sunset cruise in mokoros, the African version of a gondola, carved out of one entire tree trunk, and seen in the silhouette to the left. It was here that we stopped for about 45 mins, due to a possible hippo attack. One angry hippo was eying us off for a while and vanished into the glassy waters. A little panic stricken, but calmed by the scene around us, we just took photos and whispered potential last words to each other (lol). The hippo emerged on the other bank, around 50 metres away form us. So we left and made it back to camp safely.. only to be stormed by angry elephants later that night. But that’s another story ;) Featured in Light & Reflection / Featured in Flora Fauna & Landscapes of South Africa Very minor adjustment to contrast. Otherwise, as is from camera. The Photo Wall at Auschwitz. Taken with my 20D, circa. 2005. All done in camera, no posproduction tricks. The reflection is real, there was black tinted glass on the floor.. This was not posed, the man in the photo just did not realize he was being photographed.
One of my early photographs using an SLR, probably taken in the late ‘60s on a California beach. Top 10 in THE WOMAN PHOTOGRAPHER’s “Ocean People” Challenge/July, 2009

While driving down Wilshire in West Hollywood, I saw the Larry Flynt Building and shot the image from my car at a red light. After uploading this photo I realized that I had captured a reflection of part of another building. As most of you know Larry Flynt is the controversial publisher of Hustler magazine that appeared in print after the publication of Playboy to show more graphic and pornographic images of women. The movie is a fascinating study of the character of this man that has been called everything from “sleazy” to “lascivious” and certainly not a reflection of the American character. After his arrest, many issues were revealed including our right to freedom of speech in the US Bill of Rights. Woodly Harrelson does a wonderful job portraying the main character. “The People Vs. Larry Flynt” is one of the most controversial releases of 1996, starring Woody Harrelson, Edward Norton, and Courtney Love. It earned two Oscar nominations and two Golden Globe wins. This real-life film wonderfully desplicts Larry Flynt’s struggle to publish “Hustler”, a sexually explicit magazine. He risks his freedom to prove that the bans violate the First Amendment on the US Bill of Rights, which is freedom of speech. Through every step, he causes tremendous controversy throughout the country. Some love him, some hate him. Either way, nobody can get enough of him. The plot is brilliant. The daring material expressed deserves tremendous respect for doing what few writers have dared. The climatic story keeps audiences interested in every scene, always wondering what Flint will say or do next. The unexpected events keep the energy intact. His eccentric behavior adds a more interesting flavor to the film. Woody Harrelson and Courtney Love prove that they were made for their roles. Harrelson’s Oscar nominated performance as Larry Flint is the best in his career. Nobody else could have played Flint better. Love makes a triumphant film debut in her Golden Globe nominated role as Athena, Flint’s wife. Her erratic behavior is wonderfully displayed through every scene. Athena’s life struggles are beautifully expressed. Edward Norton’s role as Flint’s lawyer is beautifully performed. All other performers also acted their roles wonderfully. “The People Vs. Larry Flynt” is a great film for those looking for something risque. This is sure to please audiences of all kinds. This photograph could be considered a visual oxymoron. In front of the Flint buidling are the flags of the United States and California, symbols of patrioticism, American values, Nationalism, a statue of John Wayne on a horse and other symbols that represent human decency. This is in direct contrast to the man who created Hustler and the home of his magazine and “modeling agency”. in this building making a huge profit on items far from the American ideal. I caught a shadow when I photographed the Flynt building. Given what many people consider an offensive and vulgar man, what is amusing about this very controversial figure is that the shadow image reflects a hand that appears to be “flipping the bird.” I used an idiom not to offend those who find the work F%$# You objectionable. When photographing cityscapes in Los Angeles, I think it is important to show all aspects of our culture and subcultures to reveal the true character of our city. This capture does not reveal the name given to Los Angeles, “The City of the Angels.”
Festival season in Ohio runs from about the beginning of April to the end of October. I hope all the walking involved makes up for the fact that I’m pretty sure the word “festival” is an ancient term meaning “all foods can and will be deep fried”.
This image was taken from behind the Del Mar Fair on the other side of an estuary. I saw this place early in the afternoon and thought by night fall there would be some nice reflections. I didnt take into account that the rising tide would make access to this area a little more difficult. Just the same I made it in and out ok and I was happy with the images. When I got there latter in the evening there were two other photographers there who had the same idea. Go figure! I shot this with my Cannon 1DS Mark ll and a 16-35mm L series lens. /

Images with emphasis on Light and / or Reflection only please. This could be an image of many things, however the image must stand out because of its lighting or reflection quality. Hosts will reject images where the light and/or reflection is not a major contribution to the image. The assessment criteria will be… “Does the light and/or reflection enhance the image in some special way beyond merely enabling the recording of the image? If so accept, otherwise reject”.
Please keep the light and/or reflections as natural as possible. No over-processing please. Images that use filters or add ins that artificially create reflections or water effects, or that artificially create lighting effects will not be accepted. HDR images will be rejected when, in the opinion of the host doing the moderation, it is no longer natural looking. An image may be rotated or flipped in entirety, but no partial or biased flipping will be permitted.
Sunrises, sunsets and flower photo’s will not be accepted unless there is something spectacular about the light and/or reflection.
No paintings or drawings or digital art thanks.
Please note that “reflection” in this group refers to the reflection of light, not reflection in terms of thought, feelings, memories and such.
