at home?
...and what are the words one uses to describe a compilation?, works from my entire life?, fifty years of carrying around a yellow pad?, fifty years of writing and rewriting, changing the words, as their meanings change for me?
These pieces are extracted from my book of prose, “50 truths and 50 lies, the first 50 years.” Available Here

a special place,
where memories are born
and lives are played out.
where happiness and sadness
happen all at once,
where children learn the rules of life,
parents fight,
and love and hate coexist.
all these dynamics,
all the time,
all within the family,
all at home.

I really enjoyed that you could weave love and hate into the walls of a home (which is where it grows) .. and manage to still write so philosophically about it .. the emotions of a family are so strong .. you’ve managed to capture this really well.

This piece came from the words of a woman who worked for the Head Start program on Kauai. She told me of endless stories of bitter love between Mother and Father and Child. It reminded me of my own battles, and the prose grew .
Thank you.

“Where love and hate coexist” – how incredibly true, that’s really stopped me in my tracks. But the family home is really the only safe place (well hopefully) for love and hate to coexist, its as though our children are practising for the outside world, and parents vent what they can’t in the outside world.
Great poem Byron, it really gets you thinking!

I had not seen that perspective, and I agree. The home in a mini cosmo of life to come, a waiting platform where you get ready to board the train for tomorrow. The love and hate concept grew partly from my relationship between my Mother and I. We love to hate each other, and after she was gone I realized how valuable her lessons were.
Thank you for stopping by, your thoughts encourage me to think, Byron
