Struggling Silence

Struggling Silence

Old self portrait. When I wanted to share my story but couldn’t because I felt it was too ugly. Some people talk about their problems. Some people make pictures in Photoshop.

WOW!! Incredible. So moving and like warhammer says, so strong. This is certainly not a “mediocre picture” as you say in your description. This is an incredible piece of artistry, as with all your work. It is so powerful and the treatment you have given it is perfect for the meaning. I’m really saddened to read why you made this picture, but also glad you did make it because it is an outstanding piece of work.

Candence, I think you just relieved yourself of your burden in the most eloquent way I have ever seen. This self portrait is amazing and I think it`s awesome that you share it with us. What worries me is that I find it attractive and sexy… maybe I`m the one who`s got the burden!!

Wonderful art. I never thought I`d see you do a zombie, but you`ve just outdone some of the best I`ve seen (and you can believe I`ve seen lots). On a personal level it is very deep and soul searching, so you`ve managed a masterpiece on two fronts. I am so amazed by you!

Nuclear, in its power, and so very moving, It seems that you had to do, what had to be done, and for that you are very brave. The liberating part in this Art is in the eyes. There is no quarter given, and I will assume, that none was taken, even more brave. You Cadence, (if I may call you that) are a warrior, and one with extraordinary, insane and awe-inspiring talent. I lost my brother David Allen Venit, 45,on October 7, 2007, to AIDS. If you have the time, I would be honored I you would take a look at “APARTMENT ONE” on my page and give me your thoughts. It is my tribute to David’s honor, and the fight I had to confront just to grant his simple last wishes. Respect. You got crazy skills.

Although, when I look at this I have a totally different feel from some of the commentors here. I don’t get the feeling that this is a survivor, this is more like a predator, ready to rip your lungs out. I don’t get the vibe of any sadness in this. My personal take.

Cool effects so what are you saying here? I really love the photoshop effect from a artist perspective !

BUT it makes me nervous with so much violence towards women ! I know I know I know its art but what’s it saying to you the artist because I see it as a frightful abuse to women! I’am Surprised a woman would make a piece like this!

But one thing I do see its gotten people to comment on your art so maybe thats all that really matter in the world is getting noticed and not the message we send out ?

Maybe that should of been Bush you muzzled instead of this fashion model then I would of applauded you!

I’ll keep my eye on your up coming works good luck!

  • Cadence Gamache replied

This is actually a self-portrait, not a model. I consider myself a pretty hard-core feminist and would never want to send the message that violence against women is any kind of acceptable! I am very sorry that you got that impression! This piece was created as a commentary on how we, as women, sometimes just cannot find a voice with which to scream at the injustice and double standards we are faced with everyday. I know it seems shitty, but it is a reality. In my world, anyway.
I appreciate your input but please know that I did NOT intend for this piece to be viewed that way! I would hate for anyone to think that! So sorry for the confusion!

  • Jason Hampton Taylor

    Jason Hampton ...

Maybe David should READ as well as LOOK…this is a self portrait not a model and is a self commentary not a celebration of violence

This is a stunning and evocative piece expertly woven with your digital threads..Ithank you for sharing

  • David Roman

    David Roman

One thing like I told you before your one talented lady!!! No doubt and as you know art is up to the Viewer to say or think or feel what they want! Maybe you can tell me what you meant to say but its my choice to either see that or think of something more deep to my life experience ! If I was never abused I might never see what you see but if I was beaten and mistreated and bound up then what I see might be only an ugly and hurtful image!
But Art is suppose to touch us and to limit your art based on my feelings and pain is not something you should even consider when your working !! I think your main concern is to be true to your art and then let the pieces fall where they may! Your never gonna please everyone so just please yourself and your creative needs!
All that said once again your really fantastic! Maybe hurtful but thats my issue and not yours keep up the great work because in the end even what may seem ugly to others and hurtful can also help in the end to show us exactly what it is that we need to understand about our selves! Art is and educational tool !
Peace and keep creating! Your Fan

    Cadence-

Skipping over your replies, this is the122 comment sent on this piece (unless I missed counting 1 or 2). So I know, that you know how good this piece is. However, I am going to tell you at least one more time, because … it really is—that good.

Both my mother, and I were immediately able to connect with and immensly appreciate the image.

My mother was sexually assulted by an older brother’s friend, when she was only six years old. She has struggled with the general mistrust, the unexpressed anger, and the lingering pain—ever since that dreadful day that she was violated.

I am sincerely sorry, to hear about your difficult past, and I hope that the creation of this image has helped ease, at least a little, of your lingering pain.

Cadence, no matter what anyone else says or thinks of you …
You deserve—to speak out and to express yourself.
