Colin Cartwright replied
Thanks very much, Agnes.
Corinne Pouzet
This is a gorgeous watercolour Colin ! this draws you right into the scene. Alos, I love the way you painted the sky… Lovely artwork
Colin Cartwright replied
Thanks, Corinne. This was really tricky to recreate. Lots of single line and dash painting. No room for error!
Corinne Pouzet
You know, very often ‘dash painting’ is the best !!!!
Colin Cartwright replied
Yes! But I often have the beginner’s tendency to ‘fiddle’ and over-correct.
I’m made to paint correctly, at the art gallery!
Merci beaucoup, Corinne.
GEORGE SANDERSON
Great picture, Colin !!
I love the depth you have created in it !
Colin Cartwright replied
Cheers, George. This is an invaluable course. We can learn a lot from the Masters!

This is so beautiful Coln. The warm colours in the foreground just invite you right into the painting, the perspective is great and your sky is delicious. Well done.

Your work is going from strength to strength, another beautiful piece, I particularly like the treatment of the hills and sky, and the positioning of the track, lovely composition

BLYTHART
Artistically we are travelling along different pathways, but I really appreciate what you are doing. I think it is important that we keep alive the techniques of the past, lest they die out. As you have clearly mastered the art of watercolour It’d be interesting to see you give a modern scene this same treatment … for example, a watercolour rendition of a photo of your town … I’m certainly not telling you what to do of course, just saying what I’d find interesting. I suppose now you have mastered the technique the world is your oyster.

P.S. I mentioned a photograph because if you make a painting from a photograph you have taken yourself you won’t have to worry about copyright issues. Artists such as John Callow have been dead for longer than 70 years, so you have no problems there, but copyright is a big issue these days. My friend Terry has uploaded information on how to protect your own work … click here
Colin Cartwright replied
Thanks for the carefully considered comments, Dave.
Great to hear from you after such a long time. Yes, all of my Master’s series, have my own contributions to them, and all are very old (otherwise we couldn’t attempt our versions of them at the gallery).
I have lots of originals painted ‘en plein air’, here, also. If you look at my bio page, and follow the link to my bubblesite, all of the Mediterranean Spanish paintings, and both ‘Raven’s Rest’, are originals from my early attempts.
But I still enjoy painting from an old Victorian photo and adding life to them!
