Sick of Disrespect
Our planet is slowly dying of disrespect.
Governments and industries are not doing enough to stop the global warming process. People have changed their daily habits, sometimes quite a bit, to help control pollution, but in many cases, it’s only as long as there is no extra cost or too much effort involved.
In the meantime the Earth is sick, bleeding to death.
Another composite created for a challenge. I’m really pleased with myself because I wanted a texture layer with splatters or drippings or leaking of some kind, and I was about to purchase a stock image, when I decided to try making my own.
I went through my things, and picked a tube of bright red poster paint, which I diluted with a bit of water to make it manageable, added corn syrup for texture and a splash of concentrated beef stock to darken the mix. I used a kitchen brush to make the splatters on an old board and made several shots.
When my son walked in, for a moment he thought that I had injured myself seriously or that I gone mad and butchered the dog! ;-)

Wow!!! amazing composite. Your statement is so true…sad state of affairs these days. Your interpretation here with your images is stunning, Johanne.
Love all the layers/images you’ve used here and you’re so kind and supportive to share these with us. Thanks!
Fabulous!!
Johanne Brunet replied
Wow! This is such a nice thing to say Wendi! I have no problem sharing the details on how my composites were made, because as much as possible I try to pick images that are meaningful somehow to the concept in addition to creating the visual appearance that I want.
I always marvel at how different they look when they are blended in! :-)
Wendi Donaldson
Quite magical when you think of it! You do magic AND weird so well!!! LOL. W.
Jenifer
Awesome work Johanne!
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Jenifer! So nice of you to comment. :-)

Superb work, you don’t need to buy textures, you can get many from deviantart and flickr for free. Just check the artists rules about their usuage!
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Celia! I checked on Flickr and the ones I liked were too small. On Devianart, I found only brushes which worked on more recent versions of Photoshop than what have. I didn’t find blood splatter textures suitable for what I had in mind, so the best solution was to make it myself.
Squealia
umm with textures you can just drag them bigger they still work. And if you just search on blood with deviant you get this result but it was still more satisfying making you own even if your son has called the men in white coats!!!
Johanne Brunet replied
Well, perhaps I was too specific in my search terms as I asked for blood splatters and came up with mostly brushes!
As for dragging the textures bigger, I agree with you; it works in many cases. But this time, my image was at least twice the size of all the textures I found interesting. Because I needed to retain a good definition in order to see the blood splatter and droplets clearly enough, through the other textures, I didn’t want to loose any sharpness.
And besides, like you said, it WAS so much more fun and satisfying. Seeing my sons’s face when he walked into the kitchen was absolutely priceless! LOL!
Ursula Rodgers
This is wonderful work Johanne and a very powerful statement. A really well conceived image. I love that you created the spatters yourself!
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Ursula! I loved that part too; it was really fun to do!
Clare Forder
Cool image Johanne – a great way of combining your imagination with a powerful statement.
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Clare, I appreciate your comment! :-)

WOW! What a statement. I think your blood picture is wonderful on it’s own right. There are some more current affairs and environmental groups that this would fit nicely in. Great work!
Johanne Brunet replied
OMG!!! I was about to reply that my list of groups was really very long right now and that I was hesitating to add more to it, then I decided to check your’s just fun… OMG!!! And I thought that I had a long list… LOL!
I’m awating approval in Environmental Awareness, but I didn’t check if there were other groups out there.
Thank you for your wonderful comment! :-)
monocotylidono
Ah, yes, my groups list is totally ridiculous and long overdue a spring-cleaning… But from my shopping list I would suggest “All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical”, “Anticonsumerism”, “Experimental Photography and Editing”, “The Art of Intrigue” and “Current Issues”. Good luck! :-)
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you George! I added it to Current Issues and Anticonsumerism. The t-shirt (from my other portfolio) was already in Experimental Photography and Editing as well as in All Things Poetic…. Just joined the Art of Intrigue which looks like very interesting. Thank you for all these hints!
ShadowDancer
Such a beautiful photo to represent the sickness happening in our world. Very inspirational artwork and narrative. Fabulous job, you should be very proud.
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you very much for this wonderful compliment; it’s really appreciated! :-)
betha
Great combination, narrative is very thought provoking, great work. I like how you have shown the 4 images, it is amazing, what 4 such contrasting images can create!
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you for your nice comment Betha! I feel that it’s important to show the layered images in certain cases, especially when I chose them because they are relevant to the concept all by themselves, and not only for the result once blended in.
lucin
Majorly marvelous.
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you!
lucin

You are so creative, sometimes it’s scary! :-)
But not this image, it’s excellent and your concept and exucution inspired.
Love your message as well, it is too true!
Johanne Brunet replied

Ric Alexander
You used the 4 photos for this> Excellent editing.
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Ric! Reading your comment made me realize that the link was broken to one of those four images. I uploaded the flower image again, so now it displays correctly.
