The Gates of Eternity
Every now and then I like to “step outside” my boundary of usual subject matter and do something really different. This is one of those images. Captured outside the town of Central City, Colorado, I happened by this scene by luck, along with the other 2 cemeteries close by it. Long closed, these are the real deal “wild west’ cemeteries, long forgotten, long not seen. Looking like a scene out of the movie “Pale Rider”.....I had to photograph it. The ruts in the ground were still visible from where the old wagons used to carry the bodies up from the town. Quite an amazing place….
Thoughts welcomed!

Wow! I love your story as much as I love your picture. That must have been an incredible experience! I love history and I like spending time at the “old town” here in Stockholm where you can visit places from the 1300 century. Old prisons where king murderers has been held as prisoners for example. I especially like the ruts in the ground u mentioned.
I have to say im a little jealous about your experience and hopefully u will put up some more pictures from this place.
Thanks for sharing this!

If i lived in the states i’d be there in a shot. I love photographing old graveyards. looks like a pale rider is going to ride through the gate at any moment. Your contry might not be that old but you have some excelent cemeteries and buildings.
