The Past in a Present Frame

How I wish I could go back to unstressful days :P

Well the matters stressing me out lately I cannot resolve during the weekends so I decided to finish this up.

This playground is located in my neighborhood. It has changed a lot over the years. I was maybe a year old in the picture so the frame, depicting the playground today, shows how much it changed about 21 years later: There are more trees planted, the slide has changed, and the swings have been moved (if you look closely at the top right you can see the top of the swings in my past photo disappering.

And here is a poem written by Dawnsky2 for this piece:

It seems like only yesterday,
when I walked the park as a child.
Running carefree,
innocence and youthfulness.
Oh, how life speeds past you.
I sit on the bench that was once, not there,
if I remember,
only bushes laden with lilac.
The old climbing frame has gone,
replaced by color and new.
The swings are better now,
than then.
I don’t remember all this greenness,
with time, there’s so much more green now,
than then.
I gaze passed the play area
to the small field.
A girl with long dark hair plays
with a brightly colored ball.
She throws it to another,
she laughs,
she runs and jumps.
Her father waits for her play,
he sits nearby smiling at his child.
The girl stops and stands still,
she turns to look at me.
her eyes are innocent
of a life not yet fully lived.
I know this child,
this child is me,
she is young and happy.
Oh, how life speeds past you.
I am old,
but I’m happy.

Great concept Mui-Ling. Nostalgia is an interesting emotion isn’t it. When I travel to the area where I grew up, I still quite often drive up my grandparents’ street – even though their house has long since gone there’s still a few reminders of that life all those years ago.

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

Thanks for sharing Rory. I’ve grown up in this neighborhood, and only when I began university did I ever ‘move’. Funny isn’t it; the first time I moved was also the first time for me to be away from my parents so it was a really big leap for me. It felt different coming back here.

Wow! What a gorgeous little bambino you were Mui-Ling!
Love the concept of the new playground superimposed over the old/or is it the other way ‘round?
It doesn’t really matter, as i see you’re showing us how things have changed over the years, and
yet one thing remains, YOU!! yay!!!

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

Thanks Karin. It’s actually the old over the new; but I could’ve done it the other way around too! But it doesn’t matter :P

Ahhh…I too wish I could go back to the simpler days. I like this. You were a cute kid. ;)

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

Hehe thanks ^ __ ^. I may never go back to those days again but at the least I hope that my life after graduation will be better than my university life. I tend to enjoy internships better than than school terms, and my brother is happy that he is finished school, and he’s working now.

    I know this child,
    this child is me,
    she is young and happy.

That is how I feel when I am working on my passion.. you are and were so darn Beautiful and that edgeyness of Cute is prevalent in all that you do.. Cute is cutting edge and unassuming.. add that to beauty and you have a woman who does not forget her inner child.. bravo..and love.

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

That inner child does show herself from time to time, but usually that is good sign :P. I think I’m still a kid at heart; I like to scribble with crayons, play with paper and get excited around cute animals.

Some people, although while they also do not want to deal with stress of growing up, sees some advantages of being older like being able to wear make-up and high heels, drinking alcohol and going to night clubs; none of which I’m not very into :P.

You are still cute… I would hate to have to got through adolescence again…. I could stay a child though

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

True, but I get more stressed by the stressful activity and demands around me.
