Tagging your work

I’ve just gone through trying to find links to all the cards I bought, and that’s when I realised how important your tags are. Finding an artist by name is fine, if you know their name, but finding an artwork by title doesn’t work with the search facility unless the relevant title words are added to the tags.

I must admit I found this out a couple of weeks ago, and have been adding title to tags since then, but I’m going to do it for the rest too, because the time it took me to find all those cards again was just enough to start making me tear my hair out!

So please please please people…..tag your work!!!

It’s a shame that the search functionality doesn’t also search on the title and artist too. Such a simple thing, maybe someday…

  • Jeff Burns

I do agree Mel. It is very difficult to find stuff when its not tagged properly.
Sometimes I see things posted with no tags at all. That is really bad. Especially if its a great shot.

My tagging has improved with time. But your point is good. I’d not thought about tagging with the title. I’ve got some work to catch up on! Thanks

How do you do tags with spaces in them?

  • Mel Brackstone

    Mel Brackstone

tags work best as single words, I’ve found, spaces just end up giving you orphan letters. Even if you join words together with the underscore, then the person searching has to use underscores too, in my experience. Seems to work best for me with just the major words of your title, and any other descriptive words you can think of

Roger, search will find an artist, as long as you type their name/nick correctly. When I bought all those cards I was emailed a list of artist and title of the artwork, so I used that to find them again so I could list them for anyone who may be interested in seeing them larger.

Artists were easy enough to find, but then I had to go through all their portfolios to find the work, whereas if the title was tagged, I found it in one…..so much easier!

It also helps to do a search after you tag to see if the work comes up. I spent yesterday tuning up my tags and doing the relevant searches.
