The Atlantic meets Ireland
Being pushed off my feet and inbetween squalls of rain and blown seawater I got out of the car and looked along the coast of Achill Island on Irelands west coast. Though not a particularly stormy day for December it was freezing without gloves. The salt in the air was refreshing and the act of taking a photograph though a little difficult was rewarding interaction with this most vibrant and exciting landscape. I love it. Taken in December 2006.

A friend of mine from Ireland once told me that if you can’t see more than 50 yards it must be raining, and if you can se further, it must be about to rain. I love the Irish coast and you’ve captured it well here. I went diving off the North Coast at Muff, have you been there too?
Philip Rogan
Hi MattT I have not been to Muff and delighted to find out that a town in Ireland has such a wonderful name. I have been to Donegal though and Derry. I am saving to buy myself a negative/slide scanner and when I have it I know I have some old shots from both places!

Dynamic and rugged from foreground to those cloud capped mountains. Love the lighting and the action with the waves too. It’s one thing to find such a dramatic scene, but to do it justice with a photograph is top artistry. Congrats!

I have stood on this spot many a time, but unfortunately have never been blessed with the right combination of dramatic weather plus camera in hand. Even if I had, I’m not sure I could have captured it quite as well as you have here. Fantastic!
Philip Rogan replied
Many thanks Doug but I am sure you’ll get a great shot here, and very wet too!

Natures’ primal force!
Beautiful.
The west coast of Tasmania is very similar, if somewhat inbred.
