Seven Sisters
The Seven Sisters Range of the Black Mountains in North Carolina is part of the Appalachian Mountains. Mt. Mitchell, though not seen here , is just to the left of this photo. It is the highest peak east of the MIssissippi River (6684’) and is accessible from the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is a state park there with a short trail to an observation tower on top of the mountain.
This view is from Mt Mitchell Golf Course in late afternoon .

Love everything about this- the background, the fantastic colours and light- stunning work Jane!!
Jane Best replied
Thank you, naturelover. I have played this golf course though not this time of year (closed for winter). I think every fairway has an awesome view of the surrounding mountains.
CraigsMom
When I saw your title, “Seven Sisters” I was thinking of the wild roses by that name. However, this beautiful picture did not disappoint when I realized I was wrong about the roses.l
Jane Best replied
I didn’t realize there were wild roses called “Seven Sisters.” Interesting. Your part of the country has much higher mountains and I think it is easier to find vista shots there than in these mountains. Thanks for your compliment!
AnaCBStudio
wow…beautiful scene Jane!
Jane Best replied
Thanks, AnaCB. I have played golf there-but not this time of year!

mlou
Just beautiful, Jane! Love the composition!
Jane Best replied
Thank you, mlou. If I had had my golf clubs with me, I would have had the entire course to myself! (:
Ray4cam
Great photo! I really like the lighting.
Jane Best replied
Thank you, Ray4cam. This was taken late in the afternoon. I would like to have gotten Mt MItchell in the photo but I would have been shooting into the sun. WIll try to get up there and take more photos in the morning light.
Christopher E...
wonderful shot, great lighting and comp on this, looks like its right on the other side of the great smoky mountains, highest peak is clingman’s dome , elv at 6679feet, beautiful shot
Jane Best replied
THank you Christopher. Yes, I think the mountain heights here and the terrain are very similar to Great Smokies which are also lovely and dramatic.
David Lade
What attracts me to this picture is the strip of light that draws the eye. Great shot Jane!
Jane Best replied
Thanks David. This was taken about 45 minutes before sunset. However as the golf course is completely surrounded by mountains, the sun was already disappearing behind some of them resulting in interesting light and shadow effects on the fairway.
mrscboretti

Howard Keel came to mind because of the title, Seven Brides for seven Brothers. The lighting really makes this vista come to life Jane xx
Jane Best replied
I remember that. Was it a movie too? Thank you for your kind compliment. Yes, lighting can really make a difference.
micmac
Stunning light …so beautiful!!....
Jane Best replied
Thank you, micmac. THe lighting really did make a big difference, I think. Was very late in the afternoon and the sun had already disappeared behind some of the taller mountains.

Thank you very much, Tim. I am glad you enjoyed this. If it had been warmer that day, I might have been tempted to play golf there. Is an interesting course and surrounded by the mountains
