Writers selling stuff?

As a little experiment, I uploaded an image version of my Ode to Nothing poem and bought it on white and black greeting cards. Worked quite well.
This might be a way for writers on RedBubble to participate in selling
Simply create a greeting card related to your writing: maybe an image, quote, or (if short enough) the whole written work. Then readers who like your writing can buy the card – you get paid and they get a little momento.
As another example, kseriphyn has a logo for her story The Callings . If this was available as a greeting card, readers could show their appreciation for the story by buying one.

All you need is some way of creating an image file. This is possible even if you don’t have a fancy graphics program (for the poem above, I just used Powerpoint and saved the file as a jpeg)
It’s not a perfect solution but it can be done right now.
What do you think? I’d love to hear from both writers and readers
kseriphyn
You sly dog Xavier :0) Making an example of me eh? Tee hee. Seriously, thanks for the plug. Might give it a go.
Anne van Alkemade
Hi Xavier.
Had thought of the cards, but started with a test on the t-shirts as a sort of cross promotion. I figured with a few key words, people might get interested in reading (perhaps I’ve got it the wrong way around). Khylan’s card is a great idea too!!!
The Ts I’ve done so far are

Death of a Manuscript –
And “I Know …”

The words are – You’ve nowhere to run, nowhere to hide; you’ve no escape ‘cause I know you lied!

PS: my contribution to the black humour genre.

Cool idea Anne. Might be my first tee as well.
Robert Knapman
Really like the idea Xavier. Pefect for short works – and an image incorporated is even better. This is one good solution utilising existing RB systems and technologies.

and here too! :D
Anne van Alkemade
Wow Paul. You’ve grabbed the idea and you’re running with it.

My concern is the font size.
I’ve had a go at it, and I’m still wrestling with the technology to be honest.
Cliff Vestergaard
I would like to do art work for people peoms or stories if they would like me to.
AbyssalSoul
Hell yeah this sounds extremely interesting! By the way, if you check the last three images I did, they all follow the same story (the Techno Tree thingie) but, maybe I can add random text or something like that? I had in mind turning a poem into something else… For now, I’m marking this so I don’t forget.
Michael Douglass
Thanks everyone, some interesting ideas have come out of this. Cliff you could get very busy.
RonniLeigh
You all have a great I deal going there. I love poetry….I’m not a talented writer but I love poems. I also would like to help someone out with the illustration if anyone is interested. You can check my art out and see if you feel I am the right artist for your poetry. If you are interested my email address is on my profile.
Good luck to all of you!

Anne I think as long as you make the font a reasonable size, clear and crisp you shouldn’t have any problem. I will let you know when I get your picture/poem how well it turns out.

I’m not sure how to make a link on this site but here is a background for a poem idea. http://www.redbubble.com/works/show/93097 Can someine tell me how to make the link work? lol
RonniLeigh
Okay now I can share the graphic background idea with you.
Anne van Alkemade
Hi Ronni
To do the link, type in the word you want to appear as the link within quotation marks eg
“here”
then do a colon then the url as you have pasted above.

LOL
you beat me to it!
Xavier Russo
Wow, that was quick. Great examples Paul and Anne. I like the integration of images with words – should be rich ground for collaboration between writers, designers, photographers and artists.
RonniLeigh – to make a link, put the text to be displayed inside quotes, then a colon, then the URL.
Xavier Russo
and you beat me to it Anne!

have been plotting for a while but my graphics program is sulking so no saving as jpeg etc until i bribe it into submission.
RonniLeigh
Thanks guys for the help your instuctions was right on! It’s great having a supportive group of people.
Hugs,

lucan & i tried putting a short story with his image on a T here but the text doesn’t do much more than serve as a back ground for his considerably more visually effective imagery (both in a literal & metaphorical sense…)
Anne van Alkemade
It’s an excellent t and a great concept Dave. You have to view the larger image to see the more subtle parts of the design which is unfortunate for those who don’t click on larger image – they miss out!!
vjwriggs
Bloody fantastic idea but I don’t think my stuff will fit ha ha but i love the idea so clever people

What great ideas you all come up with and I do admire the unselfish attitude. I think sharing talents to create anything is the only way to live. I was so happy to find Kathleen’s Train, it ‘allowed’ me the chance to try something new.
Writing on cards is also something I can do, Thank you Bubblers, may all your bubbles have light.
