This is dear little Bobendina. She is a preuss guenon monkey and I had the great privilege of being her Mummy for a while in Cameroon whilst working at the Limbe Wildlife Centre. Her mother was killed illegally by a hunter. She was the sweetest thing you ever did see. These monkeys are highly endangered. When she slept in my room in her box the only peep I heard out of her was a little scratching of leg in the middle of the night. Just before I left Cameroon Bobendina was introduced to a family of Preuss monkeys, in a large cage. On my last day I went to see her and she looked at me and put out her hand through the bars. Oh gosh it was very hard. I hope she is okay now. I feel sad when I see her picture.

Chimpanzee, sometimes colloquially chimp, is the common name for the two extant species of ape in the genus Pan. The Congo River forms the boundary between the native habitat of the two species: Common Chimpanzee, Pan troglodytes: the better known chimpanzee lives primarily in West and Central Africa. Bonobo, Pan paniscus: also known as the “Pygmy Chimpanzee or Bonzi Chimpanzee”, this species is found in the forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Chimpanzees are members of the Hominidae family, along with gorillas, humans, and orangutans. Chimpanzees split from human evolution about 6 million years ago and thus the two chimpanzee species are the closest living relatives to humans, all being members of the Hominini tribe (along with extinct species of Hominina subtribe). Chimpanzees are the only known members of the Panina subtribe. The two Pan species split only about one million years ago. read more here GO TO MY WEBSITE

The youngest of the baby Gorillas at Sydneys Toronga Zoo. I watched the mother keep her baby close. Always holding it by the ankle if it tried to run and helping it back up onto her back with her wonderful large hands. Gorillas / Toronga Park Zoo / Sydney / Australia As is Sony a350x
A happy laughing Gorilla at Taronga Zoo. / Gorillas are the largest of the living primates. They are ground-dwelling and predominantly herbivorous. They inhabit the forests of central Africa. Gorillas are divided into two species and (still under debate as of 2008) either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is 98%–99% identical to that of a human, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after the two chimpanzee species. Gorillas live in tropical or subtropical forests. Although their range covers a small percentage of Africa, gorillas cover a wide range of elevations. The Mountain Gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2,200–4,300 metres (7,200–14,000 ft). Lowland Gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level. read more here GO TO MY WEBSITE

The Common Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), also known as the Robust Chimpanzee, is a great ape. Common Chimpanzees are found in the tropical forests and wet savannas of Western and Central Africa. They once inhabited most of this region, but their habitat has been dramatically reduced in recent years. This image shows a baby chimpanzee clinging to his mothers back.
