These Grevy’s zebras are my largest drawing yet, at 30”x30”. I used black and white charcoal on gray matboard. Grevy’s zebras are the most endangered of the three remaining species of zebra, and are also the largest. They are distinguishable from the others by their narrow, tightly packed stripes and large round ears. Their range today is northern Kenya and small parts of Ethiopia. Limited edition prints are available. A portion of sales will go to the African Wildlife Foundation. 2009

Early spring in Whitesands towards the end of a long and stormy winter. This is one of my favorite places to be, so I was able to paint it without a photo for reference. I love allowing myself to be lost in the waves. This painting is for you my beloved! This painting was featured as a tutorial in Issue 74 of the Australian Artist’s Palette magazine. Arches Pastel and Fusain Laid Paper using Schmincke, Sennelier, Unison, Rembrandt and Winsor and Newton pastels.

This is a painting in acrylics by CB O’Reilly and was inspired by my Bailerin Cottage model. Bailerin Cottage is an artists impression of a typical Scottish Highland cottar house originally built around the early 19th century. Today, most of these old dwellings have been reduced to decaying ruins that are dotted amongst the landscape, but many have been continually lived in by each new generation often staying in the same family. In most cases the original two roomed house has been greatly altered and expanded over the years to provide modern and comfortable living conditions. It is a great testament to the original craftsmen and materials that built the cottages to see so many are still inhabited to this day. With continued care and maintenance, these cottages will still be used for many generations to come. The true spirit of Scottish archietecture. Realism in the visual arts and literature is the depiction of subjects as they appear in everyday life, without embellishment or interpretation. Realists render everyday characters, situations, dilemmas, and objects, all in a “true-to-life” manner. Realists tend to discard theatrical drama, lofty subjects and classical forms of art in favor of commonplace themes.
The Realist Traditional Art Group is accepting works for submission that adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Artworks must clearly represent subject matter that is true to real life form and has been created without emotional/stylistic bias
2. Artworks must be finished and polished pieces. No work in progress pieces.
3. Colour and black and white works will be accepted as long as the subject/surrounds still maintain the realist vision.
4. Two uploads per day, if you upload more the moderators will accept two works and reject the others in a 24 hour period.
5. No photographs, this is a traditional media group, or realism created in Photoshop or computer aided program.
If you are unsure if your artwork belongs in this group, please bubblemail one of the hosts and they will help you. If your work is rejected please do no resubmit it.
