Acrylic on 14”x11” canvas board What kinda served at least as an inspiration for this work was the memory of how much the unexpected cost of dry docking a large boat was. I ended up going back to something I could get in and out of the water myself.

Sunset Over Port Quin, Cornwall Canon G9, 7.4mm, ISO 80 1/100 at f4 Featured in Polish Place October 2009 Port Quin is a small rugged inlet harbour on the North Cornish coast that has a compelling atmosphere all of its own. A place of peace and tranquillity on a summer’s day, and conversely, awe inspiring during a winter storm. Local folklore recounts that the entire fishing fleet was destroyed at sea one stormy night, there were no survivors. The women of the village tried to carry on without their men but, eventually, the hardship became intolerable and Port Quin was left deserted, with the fishermen’s cottages falling into disrepair and ruin. Today, there is little here but four National Trust holiday cottages and a few other buildings converted from old stone built fish warehouses. Text courtesy of Atlantic Highway Ltd
Port Isaac from Trelights, Cornwall Canon G9, 16.8mm, ISO 100 1/160 at f3.5 Port Isaac was a busy coastal port from the Middle Ages through to the 19th. century. Cargoes of timber, stone, coal and pottery were loaded and unloaded. Fishing was also important and still is, however tourism plays a significant part today. Most of the old village is 18th. and 19th. century cottages, many listed because of their architectural or historic importance. The streets are both narrow and very steep. Port Isaac is perhaps better know as the fictional Port Wenn from the popular British Television comedy drama series Doc Martin starring Martin Clunes.
A seachange is an abandonment of city living in favour of a perceived ‘easier life’ in rural coastal communities.
A similar term, treechange, describes the movement of urbanites to the countryside.
Have you made the seachange or have a place in mind? If so share your images and stories of your new life.
This a place for treechangers and seachangers to meet up, improve their art and generally share with like-minded souls. You can add images that relate to the group’s themes showing where you live and the changes you would like to make.
You can also add nude shots that relate to the themes of the group!
A seachange is a lifestyle change – not a holiday/vacation.
Images of cities or urban areas do not fit into this group.
Images of the sea or coast or trees etc will not fit in unless they suggest a seachange or treechange lifestyle.
Ideally the seachange or treechange lifestyle should be apparent from the image’s narrative but you can add a description as well.
