  • The thunderstorm in this photograph was taken on the top-end wetlands late in the build up season…only weeks before this area was a dustbowl, yet weeks later it becomes a floodplain ! As the storm surged across the lush plains it dumped heavy rain and some shortlived reprieving cool winds. / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 bubblesite / photography blog / portfolio —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / / / see more of my weather related photography by clicking on the preview image below. / / / /

  • A row of fishing boats, still water and a beautiful blue sky provide a superb scene for a peaceful image. I took this about 4 years back and am still always drawn to it. • A thunderstorm rapidly maturing over the western top-end of Australia. It violently throws lightning bolts out the side of the updarught from 30,000ft high, landing them some 20km’s from the actual storm…The rumbles are clearly audible from amidst the silence of this ‘crocodile’ looking estaury and beach. / / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / see more of my weather related photography by clicking on the preview image below. / / / /

  • “A Touch of Paradise” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © Sunrise in tropical Mission Beach, far north Queensland, Australia. “Flamingos walk, and sway in peace / Seeing this, it makes my troubles cease / The sun is hiding, leaving a pink scar / That stretches right across the sky / Thats all weve seen so far / And all I do is look into your eyes / For that special touch of paradise / Just a touch, a touch of paradise / Just a special touch of paradise / You hold my hand, thats when we kiss / And it doesnt take long no, until I get the gist / Of this love that stretches out across the land / Where rainbows flash, as were walking in the sand / And all I do is look into your eyes / A touch of spring, and autumn sweet / Well the trees vibrate when our eyes meet / And I think of all the love that we have been making / You touch my hand and I walk off shaking / And all I do is look into your eyes.” / ~Ross Wilson and G Smith

  • What could be more romantic than beginning a new day together with a stroll on the beach?! / Taken just after sunrise, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, February 2009 Nikon D40, NIkkor VR lens 55-200mm Top ten placement in the silhouettes challenge for All Water In Motion group, March 2009.

  • Featured in All Parks in June 2009 I had to take this one with a tripod as it was so dark that I couldn’t get a focus on anything!! This is inside the rainforest and though it wasn’t raining yet, the clouds were as thick as the trees they enveloped! Even at the elevation of 2700 M. it had me sweating just walking through this!! I can’t imagine how much work it takes to keep these paths clear enough to walk through…but had to cut my way through enough cobwebs!! / Taken along the perimeter of the Chicaque Natural Park, Cundinamarca, Colombia along the edge of the steep mountain slope in the previous capture!

  • On the second day we were in Punta Cana, a storm rolled in and eventually turned the horizon black. This was taken about an hour before but the warning of wind, rain and darkness were already present in the early afternoon. Nikon D40, 18-55mm lens / Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, February 2009 “Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm”~Unknown Featured in the Outsiders group April 2009 / Featured in the Image/Writing group, March 2009

  • A clearing storm just before sunset on the Napali Coast, captured from Kalalau Lookout in Kokee State Forest on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. For me, the incredible light and views that can be seen at different times of the day from this vantage point are second to none in all of Hawaii. The only thing you need to do is be patient when you arrive, as this area is frequently fogged in and rainy. As an example, I waited almost 2 hours before the sky broke and I was able to capture this shot. For me it was worth the wait ! • The Big Island of Hawaii is larger than the other islands in the chain (about 4,000 square miles) with a resident population of only just over 200,000. There are vast open spaces that go on for mile after mile of magnificent landscape. From lush rainforest to desolate lava fields – from the cool mountain air of Waimea to the humid heat of the eastern “rainy side” of the island – there is always something new to discover! If you are up to it, you can even hike up to the top of Mauna Kea (dormant) volcano and join the astronomers at Keck Observatory watching the stars from an altitude of almost 14,000 ft. But, be prepared for very cold temperatures and even snow at certain times of the year! Or you can visit the Volcanoes National Park and watch the lava flow from Mauna Loa into the sea. To me this island is not only a photographer’s dream, but it is also a place where I can listen to the sounds of the earth, watch the stars, and learn about the deeply spiritual nature of it’s people. Taking a tour with a local guide through areas not open to the general public, I was humbled to listen to the depth of his knowledge of the island’s native plants and animals. We could all learn so much about respect for the natural resources of our planet from the Hawaiians.
