I’ve started photography in June 2006, but until now, I havent developed much of my post-processing / editing technique in Photoshop, or any similar software. Well, not to the level I wish I can be anyway. I then ventured out to experimenting with different styles. Also experimenting with different objects. / I used my glasses (-4.5) combine with 50mm 1.8. / I used a photo tube. / I tried polar 360 panorama, to create planet like image. / I tried using piece of various glasses to achieve different effects. / Then I tried different tone that I can achieve via Photoshop. / Etc. I’m still experimenting. For fun and learning. As for me, photography is about passion and fun … :) Regards, / Sidqie Djunaedi

Looking through RedBubble, it’s interesting to see the differences in how different artists approach their photography. I’ve begun to notice that RedBubble really is a haven for the more “out there” photography, the kind of art that may not win traditional competitions, but breaks the rules or is a real expression of the artist. While some people walk the line between both, it seems that often you are a conceptual photographer, or the kind that tries to find a photo anywhere. I belong to the latter group. I love waiting for moments to just happen, to find great photos in banal settings, or to go and photograph something quite common that every now and then becomes brilliant, through chance lighting or a rare interaction. Even in my pet photography I rebel against setting up the animals into poses or pushing them into studio settings. I prefer to wait for the moments and the expressions to happen naturally and spontaneously. With my zoo photography, it is a buzz to be the only one left waiting for something to happen while the rest of the crowd got bored and left. It’s sometimes difficult to wait for moments to just happen. There’s no guarantee they will obviously, and time is money. All my favourite shots though have happened out of the blue or without planning, and that gives me the most satisfaction. It seems one of my most popular photos on RedBubble is this one: This was a fluke. Taken at a Zoo, this Gorilla was mesmerised by some bubbles being blown by the visiting children. For about a minute there was real silence in the enclosure as the human children and young Gorilla both watched the same bubble float above them and then both visibly smiled when it popped. Somehow this feels more special than if I’d been able to wave a fruit over the top of the Gorilla’s head to manipulate the expression. Another one is this – my favourite Lion shot. This moment between two brothers only lasted about a minute but it’s not often you get to witness a moment of tenderness between animals normally depicted as ferocious killers. Even this portrait of my dog which turned out to be my favourite of him was taken without planning. In fact as I took it I was joking to a friend about how he likes to pose and wait for the click of the shutter. Without planning or intention, I managed to capture what I think really expresses his personality. I suppose even those images of mine that may appear set up, never were. This shot (which is always linked in my head as the thematic equivalent of the Grandaddy song in the description) was also just a candid, but it was easy to see at the time the universal appeal of ‘man against the world’. I can equally see the fun of conceptual shots. Bringing to life the vision in your head must be difficult and fraught with frustration at times! I wonder how many people enjoy both types of photography, or do most people stick to one type?

  • / / Why Red? / I love accenting images with Red because red is the color of pain, the color of love, of stolen innocence, it is the color that flows during birth when a woman brings life into this world, it is often the color that flows out of us as we leave this earth. Today i am sharing part one of, “The Bride of Innocence”. The backgrounds you see are from the balcony pics i took during the daytime. WHAT THE LOSS OF INNOCENCE ISN’T My fellow creative Marny Barnes offered me some words that were powerful and rang true: I refuse to beleive that you don’t hold a peice of that innocene still…somewhere in all that torture you were strong enough to keep some of that innocence safe and just for you. AND I will tell you why I think that. YOU STILL see beauty all around you, / You bleed beauty and innocence out of all your work, / You touch the beauty in the torture and the pain and it grows roses…and color….and ART. If you had no innocence, you would not see the world and other peoples art with such wonder. I SEE INNOCENCE IN YOU. / YOUR HEART IS PURE AND BEAUTIFUL. YOUR ART IS BEAUTIFUL. / THE WORDS YOU LEAVE TO INSPIRE OTHERS / (ON YOUR OWN WORK…..AND THEIRS) IS BEAUTIFUL There is a mourning for the innocence i never got to have or experience as a child. / That is part of what makes incest and sexual abuse so painful. HOWEVER . . . / Marny brought to the light of my consciousness, something i failed to realize and address in my work . . . That my sweetness, my love, did not die when i was abused. It is still at my core and at my essence. My love of sweet joys remain, my softness, light, grace and hope. And these are aspects i will seek to express in my future survivor-orientated work. And i thank you Marny so much for bringing that to the surface of my consciousness. THE CONCEPTION / The Bride of Innocence (Jaeda as the Brides) was conceived back toward the end of May. That’s when construction workers put up scaffolding and started tearing down the supports on my 3rd story balcony and tarped it off. The construction guys worked a few days on my balcony, tearing stuff down, said something about needing to get permits – due to structural damage . . . and they haven’t been back since. So i decided i would get some pictures, now that my balcony is double long (they tore down the wall that separates my neighbor and me). Everything was bathed in a surreal blue light, from the tarp. The scaffolding was also double long and it looked like an endless hallway leading to the land of dreams, to heaven, anything your imagination can conjure up. The balcony itself looked very sad, broken and i kind of liked it’s decayed appeal and thought, at least i could use this to my advantage, creatively! So i went out on my balcony, during the day and night, and took lots of pictures. At night the tarped scaffolding resembled a boat marina or harbor at night. It looked so very different from, the hallway to heaven, of daylight. Previous to the balcony pictures, i had taken some studio pics of me in a makeshift bridal gown. I borrowed the bridal veil from my sister. Ripped the satin bottom off of an old nightgown for the top and used a sheer window treatment panel for the gown part/bottom because i don’t sew! LOL The bridal pictures i took of myself in the studio are what popped into my head as i was photographing the balcony and “The Bride of Innocence” was conceived. It is a slightly sad, disturbing series . . . but i wanted the next series i created to be along the lines of my Red Jane series. I felt like digging deep into all the little nooks and crannies of my soul and Spirit. All of those dark, repressed places that cry out to be acknowledged and expressed. partake and enjoy PEACE and LIGHT / j a e d a :) The Bride of Change The Bride of CHANGE / Peers through the isolating veil of pain and abuse – she is vulnerable / Her weakness is her strength because she OVERCOMES For she will no longer succumb to a tainted existence / Nor the toxic relationships, that leave dark stains on her soul / She knows . . .these ghosts of perversion and possession must go And the red of pain mixes with pink whispers of hope / She summoning the strength / To reach out, start anew and become WHOLE © Jaeda DeWalt listen to Jaeda recite The Bride of Change / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- The Bride of Innocence Pretty in Pink / She softly mourns for the bride she never got to be / No pristine, white gown for this lovely lady / She will never be the Bride of INNOCENCE She does not seek what she can not be given . . . / For innocence is the one gift, / That once stolen, / Can never be replaced yet the loss is forgiven © Jaeda DeWalt listen to Jaeda recite The Bride of Innocence / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- The Bride of Pain The Bride of PAIN is stuck inside / A blurry nightmare / As her subconscious rewinds her past / And plays it for her – over and over again . . . It is the kind of nightmare where / Violated flesh bleeds red / And the sound of innocence being stolen gets lost / Inside a hazy maze of surreal blue hues She falls to her knees in agony / She wants to find her way out of this repetitive dream / She knows to save herself / She must change the ending . . . © Jaeda DeWalt listen to Jaeda recite The Bride of Pain —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- CLOSE-UPS / /

“I wasn’t in bad way…but I was in a bad way mentally.” / Chad Witt / The Truthbary Chad Witt (1971 – 2000) was an American gay artist, fascinated by minimalism, detail and the mundane. He had synesthesia and bi-polar disorder. While suffering a particularly savage bout of depression he took his own life in September 2000. We e-met in 1996, and for the next four years maintained an intense internet friendship – discussing art; collaborating on projects and sending each other tapes talking on a range of topics. Chad would often take images I had sent and ‘treat’ them. In early 2000 I was thrilled to curate a Sydney showing of Chad’s conceptual sculpture Darlo Homo, Chad’s first exhibit in Australia and the last public showing of Chad’s art while alive. The Truthbary documents some of the images and poetry Chad Witt created during our four-year friendship, many of the images are from Chad’s ‘treated’ versions of original photography of mine. Chad’s own voice narrates snippets about himself, and one of his musical compositions provides the soundtrack. The film is in a minimalist style in keeping with Chad’s own tastes. Three of Chad’s images in the film have been further ‘treated’ by me, making The Truthbary our final collaboration. It was screened at the Sydney Squatfest Film Festival in 2008. The Truthbary is intended as a companion piece to minimal chad Redbubble Chad

/ After looking at my Social Climber t-shirt design above, my friend, George, a.k.a Monocotilidono , sent me a bubblemail today suggesting that I make the shoes transparent in order to have the colour of the t-shirt show through. Red tee = Red shoes / Blue tee = Blue shoes As simple as that!! I thought that it was a fabulous idea, and immediately went to work. Here is the result below, which can be found in my other portolio which contains t-shirts and cards for special occasions. Click on the thumbnail below to see the result and try your favourite colour. Many thanks to George for sharing his brilliant idea ! / /

The Miraculous Bridge – foundational project of The Miraculous Art Project / / Project facilitator – Simon / Artist: The group of participants / / The Miraculous Bridge is the Miraculous Art foundational project that will involve the bridge over the canal in Bicentennial Park Glebe. A minimum of 10 participants is required. / / The Group will meet in the park and discuss and consider ways in which the bridge is miraculous. Incorporating the design, the technology, the setting etc & so forth. A short group visualisation will be employed to enable seeing the bridge as miraculous and as a work of art. The group will then view and/or cross the bridge and perceive/conceive the Work of Art – The Miraculous Bridge. For example one may have the experience of “floating” over the canal & the water – which is something that the bridge facilitates, whereas in our normal limited experience we just walk over it without giving it a second thought. The aim is to bring to our awareness while viewing, the kind of wonder, “specialness” even sacred beauty and sense of novelty that we have when we look at art in a gallery. This process can be repeated as desired by the group. It is envisaged that a video will be made of the event. This may be posted on YouTube or other website for the ongoing experience of the Artwork. If the individuals participating do not experience the crossing of the bridge as being better than EXPECTED then the project has failed to achieve it’s aim. If the group does achieve a better than EXPECTED experience then the Miraculous Bridge project has been a success. The only way of evaluating the experience will be via the witnessing testimony of the artists/participants. Just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has viewed my work … the tally is now 50,310 (Journals not included) which I am staggered by so a BIG THANK YOU to you all. I have also now finished the large oil I was working on but have to wait for a few weeks for it to dry before I can apply the final varnishes to it so for those interested I will do another journal showing the end result prior to varnishing and when it is varnished shall add it to my art folio. Hope you are all well and having fun … I only have another 7 paintings to do now for the exhibition so hopefully I will get them done before November :) Cheers / CJ

After the great response from my last journal about whether to create a separate profile for my conceptual, portrait and nude images I’ve decided to do just that so here is my new profile for these shots if your are interested: / Geoff Coleman – Conceptuals This profile here is now called Geoff Coleman – Landscapes and will just be for landscapes (although I can’t stand to lose all the lovely comments I got for my conceptuals and portraits here so I’m just going to keep them but move them up to the back of my port). I won’t be posting anything else but landscapes here now. But in the very tedious process of loading up all my non-landscapes to the new profile and linking related pics and people in them I had a wonderful experience. No one had me on their Watchlist and I posted the pics without adding them to any groups but despite this, since yesterday the pics have had 459 views, and an RB elf featured Blood Moon Rising on the Art Page. How cool is that. I was so chuffed. Anyway I’d love for you to come and join me on the new profile. That is where most of my attention is going for the next little while as I have a TON of conceptuals to post. Nothing new there yet. I wanted to post all the old images without flooding people’s Overview page – hate it when that happens to me. But will be posting new stuff from tomorrow. I will definitely be trying to keep up with people’s work on both profiles though. Thanks again for your brilliant support and interest in my images. You all know what the community here means to a person. Best wishes Geoff

conceptual – information provided by wikipedia:

Conceptual art is art in which the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic and material concerns. Many of the works of the artist Sol LeWitt may be constructed by anyone simply by following a set of written instructions. This method was fundamental to LeWitt's definition of Conceptual art, one of the first to appear in print: “In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.” – Sol LeWitt, "Paragraphs on Conceptual Art", Artforum, June 1967. For the layperson, this quotation highlights a key difference between a conceptualist installation and a traditional work of art - that the conceptualist's work may require little or no physical craftsmanship in its execution, whereas traditional art is distinguished by requiring physical skill and the making of aesthetic choices. As Tony Godfrey has put it, after Joseph Kosuth's definition of art, conceptual art is an art which questions the very nature of what is understood as art.
