I’ve been keeping a close eye on the featured and popular pages on Red Bubble, and wondering where all the painters, illustrators and graphic artists are?! There are some AMAZING artists working in these media on the site, but it just seems like they’re all being lost in the system. I have nothing against photography or the photographers, but it’d be nice to see a more even spread. So – do your bit! Upload your best painting, illustrative or graphic pieces Seek out painted and illustrated works Comment, fave and watch! The popular algorithm is a closely guarded Red Bubble secret, however I’m sure doing the above things can help boost painting and illustration on this site. I know we can all help bring attention to the amazing artists on this site who deserve to have a little light shone on them! I will go through my own watch list and select and feature artists who I think deserve to be a little more popular. I have sent in my request to have an Illustration group on RB, and Kathleen emailed me back a few days later and said that many people had requested the same thing and that they were nutting out a plan for launching such a group. I really can’t wait, I do think a group dedicated to illustrators might be the shot in the arm needed for illustrative artists. If you’re with me, let me know!! Spread the word! (I have submitted this to a few groups, please let me know if this is appropriate – because I think it is, and highly beneficial to us all!!)

On the way home from Wal-Mart, the place of blender triumph, I did some drawing and painting. Still not finished with the piece, but, here’s an album that shows some of the work in progress. “Work in progress”http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=82013&l=2831d&id=612813763 Hopefully that’ll work, anyway! Though, I shall probably have to change the name of the album. I mean, once I figure out what the name of the painting is, anyway. Otherwise, if I used the same album for all pieces, it would get nigh on confusing to us all! Especially me! For those too lazy to go and read the description, I shall post a couple of the photos here .. if it works! lol That’s the first wee drawing of the painting, done in charcoal on canvas That is while still in the van, but having started with the watercolor paints. No, i don’t usually paint in the van. Sometimes, though, you know, you just gotta do what you gotta do. I had the paints, they were watercolors, my clothes were black, and we were on our way home, so if there had been any major incidents or accidents it wouldn’t have been too big a deal. The main thing i learned from working on this painting, is that I am really, really bad with brushes. Well, the business end of them. I can kick butt with the handle, doing quasi-pointillism

I log on to RedBubble every day, and am warmed and inspired on a daily basis of the Sense of Community that the website offers me. My watchlist alerts me to the new works by my favorite artists. I was very impressed and inspired today by a new work by Penny Ewardes and her portrait of her cat done in colored pencils. I bought a fairly cheap set of 42 colored pencils last month, and have been experimenting with them on different types of paper and illustration board. Then today I came across another artist, Kat P with a portrait of her dad in colored pencil, truly amazing work!! RedBubble is proving to be a rewarding and inspiring place to be on the internet world of artists.

Hi / My name is Michael Vigliotti. I reside in the United States (Ohio). I have been painting for about 10 years, and am a realism painter. My main medium is Watercolor, but I also do Ink Drawings, and Charcoal. I have recently begun within the last 2 years to do Asian Ink Drawings on Tibetan Rice Paper. I will be adding some of these to my gallery. I currently have 17 of my paintings and drawings on my site, so take a look and let me know what you think. I would like to hear from everyone. / Thanks / Michael

Thursday is my teaching day and I really enjoy it. I have a small studio so I only have one or two students which really makes it a intense experience. My goal is to impart everything I have learned and when I feel they have absorbed that much I encourage them to move on to another teacher to learn different ideas and techniques. Some I have had to give a gentle push as we always become friends. My first must is using the best paper you can afford. You can’t make a good painting on poor paper. Beginners don’t want to “waste” good paper but I find they get discouraged if they don’t. My experience has been most people don’t know how to draw…they don’t seem to be able to look at something and put that down on paper. Perspective of course is always a challenge. I know there are lots of artists who feel drawing isn’t important… to me it is the bones of your painting. I usually stick with the primary colors so they can’t make mud as easily and also to learn that you don’t need alot of paints to work with. I have found alot of people “dab” with their brush and teaching them to use the brush to its fullest potential is always an eye opener :) Load it up and use the whole brush. Alot like to copy from another artist’s work out of a book..I try to discourage that..use it as color reference perhaps but put it away and you will eventually develop your own style. I find mixing greens and not using the green out of the tube to be one of the best lessons…trees and leaves are not all green. Well it is Thursday morning and my student is about to arrive… another fun morning.

And most of all, i got a very wonderful bubblemail. It’s great to receive feedback about my work. All comments are welcome, friends. I have never been connected to an artists’ community before, and i am sure glad i joined this one. Great!!!
