This T-shirt is one that I designed years ago. It’s inspired by The Smiths song “Half a Person”. Originally it contained the song text but I could not publish it that way. That would be a flagrant violation of copyright. So I wrote my own words to go into the text half. / Nothing more to say really, except, I hope you like it. / Cheers. Self portrait - I love these magazines my Grandma gave them to me! all the ones I have are from the early 1940’s this one is my favorite, on the cover is Gloria Grahame she was in some really old films and one of them was It’s a Wonderful Life I can’t remember the other ones but I just love looking through these magazines!

I was watching the movie “The Ultimate Gift” listening to the character played by James Garner talking to his grandson when he said… ‘Learning is a gift… even if pain is your teacher”. As soon as the words had finished coming out of his mouth I honestly said out loud – YES!! Immediately I was blown away by the quote and I wrote it down and thought about its meaning for weeks. I’ve never felt so affected by a sentence before. Upon reflecting this quote I found quite confronting to realise that I spent my twenties doing everything to avoid and “run away” from my emotional pain.. Now in my 30s I’ve realised that pain was essential for me to be a more caring, less-judgemental and forgiving person. Pain seems to show us the truth in others… the truth that all people, no matter what’s on the outside… have a heart capable of breaking on the inside. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

The idea of sacred space has been one of the foundations of Native American philosophy throughout time. We see all life-forms as having their own life cycles, from the Stone (rock) people, to a Cloud person, or to a Standing (tree) person ~ they all have a space that deserves respect. Every creature being has its own territory and respects the territory of other animals. Two-leggeds (humans) also have a personal space that, if respected, becomes Sacred Space. This Mandala was created to represent ‘Sacred Space’ on the Blue Road to Spirit… teepees (home/shelter) in the cardinal directions: White/North; Yellow/East; Red/South; and Black/West (also symbolic of the 4 races). Day skies & Night skies, cloud people, thunder/lightening beings, standing people, mountains, sun and moon. Arrows of respectful friendship and feathers for the gift of respect. Sketch was photographed and painted, edited and filtered in Redfield Plug-in Fractilius, in photoshop7. Another entry from my leather moleskin journal. This was a reflection on how we’ve all got so many untold stories. I don’t want to go to my grave without passing on my stories that are worth passing on especially if there’s a chance those stories could affect or help another in any positive way. The same goes for my whole family…. I don’t want them passing without me finding out their important untold stories. I still don’t know half as much as I’d like to know about my Grandfather’s prisoner of war days and he passed many a year ago. So that story is with my Dad now and once he’s gone the story will be too. Perhaps I’ll sit down with Dad soon and write it all down? And then there’s so many of my own personal stories that only I, myself know. One’s that Im’ just not ready to share with another yet… whether emotional, physical or spiritual I just can’t put them out there just yet. I am sure one day though I’ll probably be ready to share them. What untold stories do you have that you’d like to make sure get passed on before you die?
