Hello Friends heres another one of my poems for a lovely Photograph from Mindy shes one of my favorites here on RB with her lovely fotos of her children and her photos of places we see only in the movies and times past! / She really has a way with recreating the things we remember! / Check out her lovely painting and other works here:!Mindy / Should I? What lurks down this road for me its new and slightly traveled. / I wonder who has found new life as they went this way. / I wonder if its a new day or just the same old story. / Or is this path a brighter way to a new tomorrow. / I wonder as I look at this can it offer more? / Or will it be the same old thing filled with pain an sorrow. / I wonder if its given love to its nervous travelers? / Or simply took them down a path to something worse than this. / I wonder what’s down that road I know this one so well. / Should I make a go of it or turn and walk away. / My fears are great I know them well they give me nervous comfort. / But they are like a crippling mind that keeps me bound to nowhere. / I know them well as I look at this bright new future. / An ask myself this once again will this have the answers. / And then I think that its so clear I feel it in my soul. / That if I never take the chance and journey down this road… / I will never know.

With New Orleans very much on my mind ( and hoping there will be little damage to my favorite city ) I was taken back to to a favorite photographer of mine. Clarence John Laughlin captured the Romanticism and mystery of New Orleans as no one else has ever been able to do. His compositions captured the grand architecture fading into ruin and decay. but still with its beauty intact. He had an eye for fantasy and was able to make poetry with his work . Laughlin took areas out of the tourist view that had suffered from climatic conditions and poverty and created a world of his own. His was known as an Industrial and Architectural Photographer but I think most think of him as the the first American Surrealist photographer. and an enigma in his own right. It has been said the movie “Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte ’s” film direction was influenced by his work. The Repulsive Bed Farewell to the Past Short video of Laughlins Work on Masters of Photography / A showcase of his best work / “Everything, everything, no matter how commonplace and how ugly, has secret meanings. Everything.” Clarence John Laughlin Growing up in the South myself I was inspired by him. Every chance we got my brother and I used to go to old plantations and antebellums homes to photograph the architectural elements that were left as we knew one day they would not exist. Had the pleasure of photographing the 2008 Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival of Arts Street Procession on June 7, 2008 and thought I’d share a small sample of the images I took. Also like to extend my gratitude to the following people who made me feel welcome during my visit: Jenny Smith – Festival President / Amy and Tim Wood – Festival Photography Competition Co-Ordinators / Carol and Noel Jones – Grenfell Motel Owner/Operators / Julie and Geoff Grattan – Grenfell Camera Club / Noelene and Lisa Davies – Grenfell Camera Club / Jan and Arthur Davidson – Grenfell Camera Club / Colin Walsh – Grenfell Record Photographer / Peter Soley – Grenfell Record Editor / Gaynor England – Festival Short Story and Verse Co-Ordinator There’s many others I met during the festival, however I’m unable to recall all the names – my apology. I had a great time visiting and experiencing the festival, and being a small part of it made it extra special. Cheers, / Darren. Well here i am, making my first entry into something i never thought i’d do. I guess i thought nobody would ever read this. / Maybe they won’t. / Maybe this is just for me. / In any case I’m sitting here at nine minutes past midnight on the eighth of January, foul year of our lord 2008. Wondering if, anything new will happen this time around. Not in any ordinary sense, like for example if the bin men will start to come on a Thursday rather than a Wednesday. I’m talking about something far more prestigious, will something come around the bend and take me some place special. / Probably not. / One can always hope. / I’ll probably have to go and find it. Which is a great shame since my car is 300 miles away and i fear that if i were to stray more than a few hundred meters away from my cage here at 41, I’ll most probably be raped and pillaged by the hordes of hoi polloi and plebs. I know that makes me sound like a snob, but just you come to this edge of the world and you can find out for yourself that there are lower forms of life than a Prokaryote. / This is starting to sound like some sort of depressed introduction to a suicide note. Far from it. I’m just typing whatever pops into my head at this god forsaken hour being in a slight state of delirium, mostly from lack of sleep. I would sleep, but i can’t. At first i thought i had insomnia but promptly discarded this idea when i realized that i sleep for around 14-16 hours at a time. It’s just i can’t sleep till around 3am . I’ve been told “it’s because of all that coke you drink”. Well, just to set the record straight, it’s fucking Dr pepper. / I realize theres not much talk of photography so far, so maybe I’ll have a dabble… / I haven’t taken a ‘proper’ photograph for months. Mainly due to the fact that by the time i get up, it’s dark again. / Terrible excuse. / Actually it is a little depressing that i haven’t produced anything new for this long. Even the last two additions to the gallery were old photographs reworked. This isn’t to say the ideas aren’t there, right now many scribblings and doodles lay dormant in the back pocket of these jeans. These will come to life very soon, i promise. / My fingers are tired now. And cold. Whats wrong with the damn heating? Yours frostily. A.J.W. P.S. Christmas was pretty great. As was New year. P.P.S. This has ended like a letter hasn’t it?

This group has been designed by Brian Beckett [Founder], Tina Hogg and myself to help give information on sites with photographic interest to people with mobility limitations or disability. Please come along and add your hints and tips for these people. Thanks Jul Here is a word from Brian Hi, Brian Beckett, Julie Langford and Tina Hogg have jointly launched a new group with the sole purpose of collating information regarding access for the disabled and people with mobility issues at various popular locations. The idea is to create a database where people can have input to the database with information on sites they have visited. People who have a disability can then access the database before planning a field trip to get the information they need. In order for this to work, we need you the able bodied as well as the mobility impaired to input the information about these locations. Visit our group and take a look at our database to see the type of data we need, You will find it in the forum under general discussion how to’s Just one other thing, people who attend Red Bubble Meets, we have also started a database of people who don’t mind helping out on these meets by pushing wheel chairs or acting as a companion/helper to people with walking difficulties. If you want to offer your help to others who have a disability on these meets then please put your name forward and also for which group.

Horseshoe Bay – Bermagui The 10th Bermagui Seaside Fair was held on Saturday 10 March 2007 and what a spectacular event it turned out to be. Thousands of locals from the region were proud as punch to partake and witness a fun-filled day of activities. Festivities commenced on the main wharf at the Bermagui Boat Harbour at 8am with the Blessing of the Fleet ceremony. Bishop Allan Ewing conducted the blessing and also addressed the gathering of locals regarding their continued dedication in making the annual festival a continued success. During the ceremony, the dapper dressed gentlemen from the Bermagui Probus Club Men’s Choir sang hymns, and other local singers and musicians performed. The majority of events were conducted at the Dickinson Oval precinct and a large crowd attended. Bermagui Seaside Fair announcer, June Tarlinton, said “They estimate there will be around 10,000 people and judging from what I’m seeing, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are fairly close to the mark.” “The street parade is extremely popular,” said June when referring to the amount of participants and spectators. “The Bega Vintage Car Club has forty cars involved this year and they’ve never had this many ever. The way the cars have been restored is awesome.” As part of the fair each year the Bermagui Citizen of the Year is announced. This year’s recipient of the award was Candy Craine, who was recognised for her tireless work in caring for sick and injured native animals on her property. June Tarlinton said “Candi Craine was nominated by persons within the community and she was a very worthy recipient of the award.” “She has put a lot of effort into rehabilitating animals since the loss of her husband.” Candi is also an avid photographer and she exhibited many of her quality wildlife photographs at the photographic exhibition at the Bermagui Country Club during the Seaside Fair. Celebrity entertainers, Frankie J Holden and Michelle Pettigrove, were invited to perform and compere the Bermagui Idols competition. The competition catered for local talent and the performers came out in droves to strut their stuff on stage for the gathered throng. Winner of the Bermagui Idol primary school age section was the highly talented nine-year-old Sophie Halliday, who performed a cover version of the song Who Knew by Pink. Judging for the competition was carried out in a novel way, and this was done by gauging the level of audience applause when each contestant’s name was announced. When Sophie’s name was announced, the applause and screaming was deafening. You could have come to the conclusion that her family in attendance numbered 500. She was undoubtedly the star of this year’s Bermagui Idol competition. Young local band, Overdrive, belted out a few tunes for the large and receptive crowd. The street parade, sponsored by Australian regional and rural broadband internet provider, activ8me, was a roaring success as it made its way along the spectator-lined one kilometre stretch of Lamont Street. The Batemans Bay Soldiers Club Pipe Band lead the colourful parade which included floats representing local schools, various community groups, the Bega Vintage Car Club, SES and Rural Fire Service, Bermagui Surf Lifesaving Club members, Bermagui CWA and street performers. Novelty events were conducted for kids, and kids at heart, with the Chuck-A-Tuna competition proving more than a handful for participants. A little bending of the rules by some was detected, however it all added to the fun and frivolity of the afternoon. Local Aboriginal dance group, Gulaga Dancers, were in attendance and performed traditional style dances for the crowd. Carnival rides, a spectacular fireworks display in the evening over Horseshoe Bay, and a sandcastle competition were also part of the day’s festivities. Dozens of stalls were erected on Dickinson Oval with stallholders exhibiting and selling local produce and products, advertising local and regional services and businesses, and supplying food and beverages for the masses. On Endeavour Point Headland, Sculpture on the Edge featured sculptures by Alan Watt, Richard Moffatt, Michael Le Grand and the provocative Melbourne sculptor Greg Taylor. Bermagui, approximate population 1120, is situated in the gorgeous Sapphire Coast region of New South Wales and is renowned as one of the best, if not the best, places for marlin fishing in Australia. It’s also home to a fishing fleet, and is close to Montague Island which hosts numerous animal species. Other local attractions in Bermagui are the scenic Horseshoe Bay, the Bermagui Boat Harbour where you can witness the unloading of the catch of the day, and the Bermagui Blue Pool. The historic Bermagui Beach Hotel exhibits fishing memorabilia in the main bar, lounge and dining areas. It’s also a top spot for a soothing ale or lemonade. Meals are hearty and excellent value for money. High quality accommodation at affordable rates is available at the Bermagui Beach Hotel and the ultra modern Harbourview Motel. Bermagui is a friendly and scenic seaside town located 378 kilometres south of Sydney, Australia. Put it on your list of must see places – it’s a gem. I’ve been looking around on redbubble and I’m starting to think I might have become obsessed with the site, I love to see what everyone else produces and I was blown away with a lot of the photos of different places in Australia… all of you are making me want to go there just so I can have wonderful images like yours. The amazing colors in all of your shots astound me! The reason I am writing a blog now is because I wanted to know what other people think as to what makes a good photograph? What are certain things that pull you in to the photo? What attracted you in the first place… What do you like most about black and whites? and what are somethings that you would like to see more of? I have this aching feeling of wanting to go out and shoot something… I guess I’ve just become inspired by all of you! (This site really is wonderful!) Any suggestions to help a fellow photographer to improve are more than welcomed and appreciated. Thank you!

New Networks for Conservation Photographers / More than just pretty pictures – these institutions promote the use of photography for conservation purposes. / Source: PopPhoto.com | December 5, 2007 | Breaking news from America’s top photo magazines / BY RODDY SCHEER / September 2007 © Jeremy Woodhouse/Wildlight Nature Photography / A Japanese macaque captured by NANPA’s Jeremy Woodhouse. Click photo for more images. / No longer content just to take pretty pictures, many nature photographers these days have refocused their efforts on something more meaningful: the conservation of landscapes and the wildlife and indigenous peoples that inhabit them. Once the domain of a handful of National Geographic shooters, conservation has emerged as perhaps the driving force linking today’s aspiring and established nature shooters. / In response, a number of institutions have arisen to address the needs of this fast-growing group of eco-conscious shooters. First and foremost is the Colorado-based North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), which was established in 1994 at the impetus of famed ornithologist Roger Tory Peterson. The organization today marshals the collective power of more than 3,000 photographers, editors, and photo buyers to promote the use of photography for conservation purposes. / Hundreds of NANPA members have volunteered to work for environmental groups and government agencies documenting endangered species and landscapes across the continent and beyond. The group also helps conservation groups directly with ongoing campaigns: Recently it joined an effort by the Alaska Conservation Foundation to step up wilderness protections on some of the 49th state’s most endangered lands. The association has also been active as a voice for increasing federal, state, and local funding for, and protecting access to, public lands through its Resource Relations Committee. “There is something to be said for an organization with 3,000 members asking a park manager to reconsider a policy,” says Kathy Adams Clark, a professional nature photographer who currently serves as NANPA’s president. / CONTACTS / North American Nature Photography Association / Tel: (303) 422-8527 / Website: nanpa.org / Blue Earth Alliance / E-mail: info@blueearth.org / Website: blueearth.org / International League of Conservation Photographers / Tel: (703) 304-1440 / Website: ilcp.com Anyone interested can join NANPA for a nominal annual fee and take advantage of its many tangible benefits, such as good rates on equipment and travel insurance, discounts at camera retailers, and access to the myriad resources available from the organization’s newsletter and members-only Website. Networking and learning opportunities abound at NANPA’s annual member summit and at various hands-on instructional events around the country. / Another organization on the cutting edge of conservation photography is Seattle-based Blue Earth Alliance, which teaches photographers how to raise money for and stage documentary projects about threatened environments, endangered cultures, and related social issues. Photographers can essentially borrow the group’s nonprofit 501©(3) status to attract tax-deductible donations from interested individuals, companies, and foundations. Beyond serving as a fiscal sponsor in this regard, Blue Earth coaches photographers on how to organize, shoot, fund, and publish special documentary projects. Since its inception in 1996, the group has served as the fiscal go-between on more than $1 million for 55 different photography projects, including exhibitions, books, and Websites. / Executive director Adam Weintraub points out that the group works with established shooters such as Frans Lanting and Gary Braasch as well as passionate upstarts like Benjamin Drummond, whose project Facing Climate Change tells the story of how climate change is affecting groups all over the world. “We are always on the lookout for great photographic storytellers with compelling projects,” says Weintraub. / © Benjamin Drummond / A reindeer herdsman in Norway by Blue Earth’s Benjamin Drummond. / While anyone can join NANPA or the Blue Earth Alliance by writing a check, the recently formed International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP) is a more exclusive club. New fellows can be nominated and approved only by the existing membership. And quite a club it is: The group’s impressive list of “fellows” includes Art Wolfe, Chris Rainier, David Doubilet, Jack Dykinga, Joel Sartore, Kevin Schafer, Michael K. “Nick” Nichols, and Robert Glenn Ketchum, along with 38 other acclaimed nature photographers. / The ILCP was launched at the 2005 World Wilderness Conference in Anchorage, Alaska, at the urging of photographer Cristina Mittermeier, to “help create a culture of appreciation, understanding, and stewardship for the natural world.” Mittermeier directs the fledgling yet prestigious organization from her home in Virginia. / The group collaborated with the nonprofit Wildlife Conservation Society to publish Human Footprint: Challenges for Wilderness and Biodiversity in 2006, a richly appointed coffee table book showcasing imagery by ILCP fellows that documents man’s impact around the globe. In addition the group recently launched its first Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition (RAVE), in which a team of ILCP fellows and researchers descended on Mexico’s Triunfo region for ten days to document all aspects of this environmentally threatened area, then distributed their findings through the media. This kind of high-profile operation, a photographic Delta Force tasked with saving specific regions, is at the heart of the ILCP’s mission. / Of course any success in conservation photography must be measured one individual action at a time—so it’s up to individual photo enthusiasts to point their cameras in the directions that will make the most difference. That said, organizations like NANPA, Blue Earth Alliance, and ILCP are making it that much easier to amplify and harmonize what might otherwise seem like lone voices in the wilderness.
