  • How many different ways can you capture a waterfall. I decided on a faster shutter speed than my normal waterblur shots. I bracketed my shot and merged in hdr.. for me a very pleasing end product considering it was taken almost straight into the sun ( with a touch of cover from the trees). :-) MY WATERFALLS SET

  • On a wet evening in Whitby this long exposure manages to smooth out the water and soften the detail in the sky. I have converted this to black and white but it wouldn’t have made much difference if I hadn’t. This long-exposure captured the mood of the evening well. Because of the weather conditions the town was deserted and quiet. The rain had reduced visibility and the only thing that can be seen on the horizon is the light from a distant boat which had been accentuated by the long-expsoure.

  • 3 miles north of the English seaside town, Whitby, is the small village of Sandsend. The beach is littered with these weathered groynes. If you catch them at the right time you can have great fun with a long expsoure and receeding tide.

  • Whitby Abbey taken at 4:30 am (yawn). The first light of the day from the rising sun gave this amazing glow to the stones of this ancient building bringing it to life. Whitby is a wonderful seaside town along the North Yorkshire coast of England. This is a fascinating place to visit. HP PhotoSmart C945 bridge camera / f/5.6 / 1/60, / exposure bias -.67 / Used a tripod

  • Early one morning whilst staying at Robin Hood’s Bay, a North Yorkshire coastal town in England, I awoke to go and get some shots of the morning sunrise and of the still quiet town before the bustle of the new day. I managed to get some spectacular shots of the sunrise and the colours. Before I left the beach and made my way back up the very long hill, I spotted this boat sitting on the sand waiting till the tide made its way up. The colours are just as beautiful as the sunrise just a short time earlier. Fuji FinePix S5600 bridge camera / f/3.5 / 1/2000 / ISO 100

  • Wain Wath Force is a waterfall situated on the River Swale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire, England. The falls are located at grid reference NY883015, one kilometre upstream from the hamlet of Keld which has three other waterfalls in its vicinity, namely Kisdon Force, East Gill Force and Catrake Force. The falls in the north of England are often termed “Forces” after the Norse word “Foss” which means waterfall. / Wain Wath Force is not a substantial falls; it has a drop of only around 1.5 metres as the river flows beneath the limestone cliffs of Cotterby Scar. Despite its modest height it is popular with visitors, the Coast to Coast long distance footpath passes the falls on the north bank of the River Swale while the main motor road up Upper Swaledale passes on the south bank. / Shot with a Nikon D70s and 18-70mm lens /

  • A number of years ago, we took a family holiday up in North Yorkshire, England. On a day out, we decided to take a trip on the Steam Train that runs from Grosmont to Pickering, across the moors. I love the sights, sounds, and smells of steam trains. They represent a more romantic time. I took this shot in Grosmont as the train was loading for the next trip. It was like stepping back into another era. The trip along the railway was so fascinating and exciting. On the way back, I was invited to ride on the footplate up at the engine. Watching the fireman shoveling coal and getting to blow the whistle were the highlight of the day! This is an HDR image combining four images. I also applied the Orton effect to soften the image. • A lucky photo of the lighthouse at Scarborough. I’d had my back to the lighthouse for some time watching the light falling over the south beach when I turned round to see a huge black cloud behind the lighthouse and this beautiful rainbow. I only had about a minute to get the photo I wanted before the rainbow faded and the heavens opened soaking me to the skin!

  • This is the statue of the Roman Emperor Constantine outside the west door of the the Church of St Peter, better known as York Minster. The sunrise was just catching his arm and the tower under repair on the Minster and the composition mirrors the fact that in God creating man, so Constantine created Christianity as the state/politically sanctioned religion, thus starting years of debate, slaughter and torture along side learning and art.

  • A dawn in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire. No graduated filters used in this; this is the way it was, with shifting layers of fog… a beautiful sight (taken minutes after emerging from a tent!)

  • Taken in the North Yorkshire Dales, heading out of the village of Grinton and heading towards Redmire Moor. you climb up a nice gentle slope and then a few bends with wide open roads and hit an area that looks like it has been blasted by nature and man a few times and you came across some open views and then vistas like this one.
