It’s the end of the year, and naturally I’m thinking of how much I’ve evolved creatively over the last year. I’ve just completed my first poetry book, which is currently in production, and now I find myself looking “beyond my sight” to see what lies out there waiting to be discovered. Sailor by Cheyenne The Lighthouse: / Old and Beautiful, Tall and Bright as it guides my Sailor home in the night. / Dark and Stormy sea, / the Hurricane tosses, his Boat rocks, / water breaches it’s Deck. / My Sailor’s in trouble, / His Ship as it begins to sink. / All hope is lost, until.... / Until He sees Me, / My shadow cast out on the Stormy sea, / casting out miles away, / the powerful light within the Lighthouse, / guides my Sailor home again. / Safe and Sound, my True Love is found. / The Lighthouse stands Tall and True, perched on top a cliff, / Old and Beautiful. / A symbol of Our strong Love. / Faithful We are to It. / It’s faithfulness is forever to our Gratitude. This is a view of La Corbiere Light House in Jersey, CI, that I discovered for the first time this summer. This has become one of my favorites. I look forward to going again next year. I love seaside skies. They can be so romantic and sometimes mysterious, and the sound of the waves crashing upon the rocks or the much gentler shore line. Colourful houses stacked onto the hillside around Brixham harbour in Torbay, South Devon, with the setting sun perfectly complimenting the illuminated shopfronts on the harbourside. This was intended to be Stormy blah blah Dawn, however when I got to the coast at 5.30am having evaded the Protect The Peninsular From Urban Plebs Patrol (still tucked up in their warm beds no doubt, the woosies), it started to rain. So I went home. Undefeated though, I drove back this afternoon to the coast, went guerilla on the gear (ie one lens, one filter, no bag), got to the spot of spots, set up, .... and then it started to rain. Undaunted I grabbed tripod and camera and took refuge from the wind, behind a ledge. I wrapped the camera in a cloth to ward off the spray and stood there with umbrella and waited. A long time. Eventually I got to shoot, completely alone, in between cloud bursts, and sometimes within. This image was towards the end of the day, when the setting sun to the right broke through the storm clouds. I made my way to view the sunset as usual at La Corbiere Light House, in Jersey, CI. There was a storm just making it’s way in towards land and there were these very dramatic clouds that hovered over the light house. The clouds didn’t stop the sunset however, which gave this amazing colour and texture to the sea. I couldn’t believe my good fortune. I have taken many shots of this light house but never caught such amazing colour as this before. Hope you enjoy it as well. A man strolling on the beach at Queenscliffe, Victoria, Australia, is sillhouetted briefly by the shimmering reflection of the setting sun. The sun was too bright to view through the telephoto lens of the SLR. It was advantageous to have the ability to view the scene on the LCD screen instead – although this made both handheld-framing, and timing, of each shot a bit hit-and-miss. More info here about the risk to your eyesight when framing shots of the sun.
