Many years ago, My travels to Africa taught me about the strength of the human spirit. Despite poverty and adversity, I met men, women and children with great pride, strength and dignity. Although bent in body, this old man was / strong in spirit, courage and nobility. I was profoundly moved / by his strong sense of pride and courage in a small village / in Kenya. I dedicate this poem to his wonderful spirit: “How should we be able to forget those ancient myths that are at the beginning of all peoples, the myths about dragons that at the last moment turn into princesses; perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest being is something helpless that wants help from us. So you must not be frightened, if a sadness rises up before you, larger than any you have ever seen; if a restiveness, like light and cloud-shadows, passes over your hands and over all you, do you must think that something is happening with you, that life has not forgotten you, that it holds you in its hand; it will not let you fall…” Ranier Maria Rilke / Translated by Coleman Barks Please view in large format. All sales from my African / photography are donated to the charities that empower / and improve the quality of life for the African people and / wildlife.

Collaboration with Andrea Boux. / Andrea provided her unedited, self portrait. I added abstract layers, some digital painting and much editing of Andrea’s self portrait, to achieve a metallic, robotic effect. :-) Simon http://missboux.deviantart.com

STANLEY SPENCER. / Paid by urgent holiday wages. Through a growing ozone hole, / Psychedelic aeroplane vapours suck kisses to heaven. Pigeons shaking feathery dust away / Over wet guttering, / Staring wildly hungry through soul reaching eyes . / Intimate chatter amongst dirty city clothes, / Their smiling chuckles on bowed heads roll eyes upwards. / Speaking shifting smells of feathered weather tightens their flesh, / Over fresh grey leather taught from rain. Stray cat still hungry for its same patch / Swells after kicking dirt high into a peach coloured sky. / Lands on street fence / Been painted to often / On late Indian summers / Crumbles. Alone at a newspaper covered wooden table, / Beating steak as wooing maidens to a dirty corner. / A slight ripple under the paper from long ago meals, / Disguises brown wallpaper, / That peels upward revealing cracked plaster. / Maggots fall from the table edge, / And wiggle blindly nowhere - / Tender rump steak sizzle fries under blue light. / / ………………….. / Outside corner shops empty of all but food, / On never changing shelves form chiselled labels. / Waiting deep freezers / For junkies or beggars. / That draw Gods lottery, / On who sleeps in their white velvet carpeting. / / Papers next natural disaster for eyes to feast on, / With hurried breath through un-brushed pungent chattering teeth. / Makes tomorrows conversations linger. / Desire through another meal of meat and vegetables with Yorkshire pudding. / / Never ending science fucking fiction books, / Filled with irrelevant stories on how to eradicate the animal kingdom. / Books on fiction. / Books from the library never to return. / STANLEY FUCKING SPENCER / Image :Red & black biro pen on 170gsm cartridge paper.

2008 Acrylic on Canvas 48×44” I sat down next to this beautiful young lady, (early 20’s) to drink my coffee at a Central Coast Coffee Shop. She looked so sad kept stirring her coffee, to the point of been annoying. I asked her why she looked so sad, she politely looked up at me, turned her head to the left and right, you know how…. like, teenages do that quick hip-hop stuff with their heads…... and then she repiled I’m CONTEMPLATING DUMPING MY BOYFRIEND of the past 8 years…. the S.O.B.!!!!! You never know where insiparation will come from! I rushed to my Studio to start this painting I left out the tatoos of her boyfriend’s name on her breast

Please Don’t Lean on Me I found this great life size paper mache sculpture, in the San Antonio, TX Market place. The sign on the bottom states “please don’t lean on me, I am fragile”. That statement meant for preservation of the piece, but looking at him gave me a second thought of that same statement ! (smiling)
