Chalk cliffs near South Landing, Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire (UK).
Popped up to Wetherby this afternoon, the river was in full flow after the weekends rain… I tried taking this shot when we arrived but it was straight into the sun. As it is, with the shorter days I was able to stop off as the sun set before we headed home. I still needed two filters because of the brightness, I used a Cokin NDX8 and a Cokin NDX8 Grad. The combination increased the skies pinkish colour giving a pleasing effect. I think the foreground sculpture of the leaping salmon is facing the wrong way.. it should be leaping towards the weir.. just a personal opinion :-) Taken at Wetherby in Yorkshire with a Canon 5D.

As I was going down to Water Ark Foss this old North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam engine was puffing it’s way up the gradient, seemingly making hard work of it as it puffed along. I just had to take a shot of all that smoke/steam. / Partially Ortonised. Taken in the North York Moors National Park near Goathland. / Taken with a Canon 5D.
Illuminating York light and sound show, photography shot at Kings Manor Courtyard York.
It may seem daft, but I’m posting this photo to see if you enjoy steam engine noises??? Just above from where I took this photo of Water Ark Foss is a railway bridge belonging to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. On my way back from the falls I stopped alongside the railway line and took a video… the video is poor, my compact camera needs a grad filter so the skies don’t get blown out… but, I think the sound is just lovely… almost perfect.. / Check it out HERE :) / Water Ark Foss is one of two lovely small waterfalls between the villages of Beckhole and Goathland on the North York Moors National Park. The other waterfall is Thomason Foss. I’ve watched a heron fishing down here and seen what look like trout ( could be small salmon ) trying to leap up the falls. It’s a lovely hidden valley with out too many visitors, lets hope it stays that way :) / This photo of Water Ark Foss was taken with a Canon 5D.. the video was taken with a Canon G10. Thomason Foss.

The cafe at the Embsay railroad station, Embsay, Yorks. A colorful spot to watch trains & have a cuppa.
Another one of those days, set off for Falling Foss, found the car park choc-a-bloc, school holidays. Went to Whitby, it was heaving.. so Goathland and Nelly Ayre Foss it was. I knew there wouldn’t be much water in the falls, but I was pretty sure I would have it to myself. I was right, no one around, very little water in the waterfall but some lovely light on the Autumnal trees.. I was rushing this shot, the central bushy tree was lit up by the sun, it was a matter of catch it while you can. There was a problem, I was shooting between trees and trying to avoid getting them obscuring the view, I almost managed to keep the foreground trees out of shot :-). / The Magic of light. Best Large. Taken at Nelly Ayre Foss near Goathland in the North York Moors National Park.

Had a long awaited enjoyable meet up with my old mate Rob Hardy. We started off at Falling Foss, at least I did, Rob had already been to Blea Hill Beck waterfall before our 9:30am meet… he can’t sleep..lol. This shot was taken from quite high up between the trees.. both Rob and I took very similar shots, but this one I didn’t crop in so close, I decided on a bit of Autumn foliage at the top. Taken at Falling Foss waterfall in the North York Moors National Park with a Canon 5D.

On a recent weekend trip to stay with some friends in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, we all decided to go out for an afternoon to Murton Park, home of the Yorkshire Museum of Farming . The site is fabulous with an array of old tractors and farm machinery, as well as an accurate Viking settlement and replica Roman fort. Amongst all the displays, there was this gem. It is a Shepherd’s Hut. / “Shepherds stayed in such huts during lambing time. They could keep a constant watch on their flocks both day and night. Although sparsely furnished, there was usually a bunk to sleep on, and a stove for warmth and cooking food. The hut would be mounted on wheels for easy transportation to fresh grazing. The Yorkshire shepherd’s huts were common on the Wolds in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This hut was built for their shepherds by the Quarton family of Kexby, on the banks of the River Derwent. It is mounted on reaper wheels.” This is a HDR image combining 5 bracketed shots using Photomatix Pro for Macs. Slight adjustments in lighting and tone were done using the enhanced details tool.
